Hi i bought some little tins of heinz macaroni cheese (1.4g of salt per tin), heinze baked beans (1.1g per tin) and some alphabetti spaghetti (0.8g per tin). Would these be ok for my 11 month old? I thought they would come in handy for the days where i have to work after dinner so he can have something quick with some veg etc.
This salt thing confuses me, how much can they have over 12 months?

Why does everyone think tinned baked beans are good for you? True the beans are (except that any goodness has probably been beaten out of them in the cooking process) but they are full of salt and sugar. And apart from actually giving children more salt and sugar that hey should have, they get their taste buds used to salty and sugary things so that "proper" food tastes bland to them and they reject it.

I reckon that a packet of fresh pasta twists kept in the fridge, cheese (if you like a bag of pre grated) and a bag of frozen peas would put a meal for a baby on the table very nearly as fast as finding the tin opener, opening the tin of beans, making the toast..

Or a sandwich, some carrot sticks and cucumber and some apple slices. Even quicker. Or a portion of something you cooked yourself at the weekend in the freezer.

I think it is horrible! If you don't want to make your own sauce all you have to do is cook some pasta, drain, break an egg and mix in (the heat will cook it) and grate some cheese and stir in.

You could also do fake carbonara - cream in pan, bubble, add grated cheese plus peas, ham, any cooked veg really, add cooked pasta, stir. Much nicer.
