What can I put on a savoury brunch sharing platter/grazing board?

It will be served at room temp but I can cook things before hand. Not sure if hash browns would work. Bagels might be too big. What do you think?

Continental? Cheeses, meats, slices of naice bread? Maybe smoked salmon and some capers, olives? Fruit.

I’ve got a 2yo who could eat olives by the bucket-load, so good to know that they wouldn’t look out of place on a brunch board!

Cold hash browns don't sound very appealing IMO.

-These are easy and you could add any filling you like- bacon, asparagus, tomato, semi dried tomato, basil, smoked salmon, various cheeses etc. Plus can make a day ahead and serve from the fridge. https://www.amummytoo.co.uk/filo-pastry-mini-quiches-great-for-kids-to-make-and-eat/

-Fresh, fruit skewers
-Date scones with jam/cream

I always do a Mezze platter in these kind of situations. Can prep the lot beforehand. Here is my crib sheet of my favourites. I do at least 1 from each:
How to build a mezze platter
MEZZE SPECIALS courgette fritters, stuffed peppers, falafels, dolmades, Koftes, spanakopita, tyropita
CHEESE and MEATS Feta type cheese, Halloumi. Prosciutto, Salami.
SALAD / CARB tabbouleh, rice, freekeh, cous cous, potatoes
DIPS min.2. labneh, hummus, baba ganoush, tzatziki, muhamera
FRESH VEG cucumber peppers tomatoes, radish, carrots
ROASTED VEG peppers, aubergines, courgettes
PICKLES AND CHUTNEYS olives, artichokes, mushrooms, savoury jams, chutney
FRUIT AND NUTS cherries, figs, grapes, apricot, peach. Walnuts, pecans.
BREAD flatbreads, crackers
GARNISH Pomegranate seeds, parsley, chives, edible flowers

Another idea is gram (chickpea) flour fritters. Again, you can mix/match the filling with onions, courgette, sweet corn, coriander and/or some curry powder. Depending on the fillings, I've served with a yoghurt dip, sweet chilli sauce or a garlic sauce.

Go retro and do devilled eggs, cocktail sausages on sticks, new potato salad, quiche lorraine, crusty bread and butter, slices of pork or gala pie, smoked salmon rolled up around cream cheese with chives, then sliced into rounds.

Spanish omelette or a frittata?

onelumporthree · 10/03/2026 15:59

I like a vegetable samosa at a time like this. And a prawn vol-au-vent. And gherkins.

I so relate to this! For a different type of event, I did home-cooked cold meats, salad, extras, with a curry corner. All adults except for our two. My then 2 year old was seen repeatedly weaving her way through the adults to get to the cherry tomatoes...I'd suggest you get a lot more olives than you think you need! She's adult now, but the cherry tomatoes still go quickly when she's home!

Make crostini from sliced baguette and top with tomato chutney and sliced hard boiled egg, cream cheese and smoked salmon, smashed avocado and chilli flakes.
slices of fritata, cocktail sausages.

For a shared grazing board melee, I would add a box of these.

Twinkletwinklelil · 10/03/2026 22:03

I’ve actually done this a few times.
I split it by doing half savoury half sweet

savoury - always do bagels or baguette. Smoked salmon. Cream cheese. Hams. - think continental hotel foods. I wouldn’t do eggs or hashbrowns cold though, sorry.

sweet - croissants. Pan au choc. Waffles. Pancakes. Fruits, spreads - choc, jam, butter etc. yoghurts and muffins.

always have a load of fruit too. And nice juices.

Polythene · 10/03/2026 22:04

Cutlery and plates.

Forgottenmyphone · 11/03/2026 09:34

Thanks for all these ideas. @TwinkletwinklelilI wish I was doing a sweet brunch board - that would have been so much easier - but I was asked to do savoury only.

@HundredAcreOwl It’s funny how they fixate on something. I swear my DD’s blood is at least 50% olive oil, and a family member got her jellycat olives for Christmas!
