What to prepare for a substantial ‘snack’ for someone arriving late from a long haul flight

They will arrive around 11.30pm, I doubt they will want a big dinner, but will probably be hungry for some decent food. was thinking of doing a quiche and salad but then remembered one of them has an egg allergy.

Any ideas for something I can prepare in advance ?

Thank you.

I am loving some of the answers especially the 'ex cabin crew' one who worked on an airline so knows what every single person would not want coming off a plane hahaha

No idea how long the flight is nor the time from airport to yours but I have always handed up Tayto crisps, a white sliced pan of bread, tea, bottles of coke, water and a dairy milk. Yes I am in Ireland and yes I have had far too many people fly from Australia and Asia etc and still this is what they get. Stretch or starve!

Strange response! “Hahaha”’and yet you’re suggesting similar things to me!

Ok I dont know what everyone would want but I have done a heck of a lot of flights and with a lot of colleagues and friends/family over my 20+ years flying, so I do reckon my opinion is reasonable!

They'll have been well-fed on the 'plane, so I'd probably just offer a sandwich.

😂 what airline do you fly?

Tonissister · 09/03/2026 15:48

I'd do soup, fresh crusty bread, cheese, crackers and pickles, salad and fresh fruit.

Did you miss "long haul" in the title?
Major airlines, not the cheapies.

I wouldn’t count on anyone having been fed on a plane. Airlines only cater to limited allergies and don’t label the food. There is just as decent of a chance they will have only eaten whatever snacks they had in their personal item and are starving.

I would say have biscuits, crisp, crackers, bread, yoghurt and fruit available. I personally wound't fancy a proper meal at that time of night - if I felt hungry, I would get fast food like macdonalds.
