Catering for pescatarian / GF / no tomatoes or mushrooms

I have friends coming for dinner and need to come up with a main course that suits a pescatarian, a GF diet and doesn’t contain tomatoes or mushrooms.

Preferably something I can prepare ahead.

Normally I would do a fish tagine or fish stew but these contain tomatoes.

I was planning on doing a Mediterranean/ Moroccan type starter and pudding.

If anyone has any inspiration I’d be so grateful!

I’m gf and have pescatarian friends. The last time they hosted me for dinner they cooked the most amazing fish pie.

there’s also risotto (but not paella, sadly)

you could try a pasta dish but gf pasta is an acquired taste.

Cheesy cod bake. Sprinach, cod, cheese sauce, made with cornflour, roasties and green veg.

Fish pie, white, smoked, prawns, capers, glug of wine, chopped parsley, white sauce with cornflour again, topped with mash - green veg.

What about pud?

Sweet potato or prawn curry with rice, naans (sainsburys do a gf naan), poppadoms, raita, salad

fish tacos with rice, guacamole, tortillas, sour cream

fish (gf breadcrumbs, shallow fry), with home made chips and peas, tartare sauce

@LoveSandbankstraditional paella doesn’t have tomato in so it would be fine!!

Another option could be kedgeree? Or some kind of pasta with seafood in garlic/white wine/parsley?

Kedgeree's a good idea.

I made this pie for a family celebration and it worked well and was very popular https://boroughmarket.org.uk/recipes/thai-fish-pie-with-crispy-turmeric-potatoes/
There’s a fantastic recipe for Goan fish curry on the bbc website, and a good salmon Thai curry on Tesco website. They both work well made in advance and reheated.

For a main course that aligns with your Moroccan/Mediterranean theme it is naturally gluten-free and avoids tomatoes and mushrooms. You can adapt the traditional tagine by focusing on saffron, preserved lemons and aromatics.

This looks amazing. Thank you. I’m grateful for all of the suggestions and will keep them safe for future reference but I will definitely make this. I’d never come cross this website - thanks again.

Going with the Moroccan flavors from the starters - what about a fish schwama, flatbreads, and middle Eastern inspired salads?
Can prep up front, but would be best cooked last minute.
