Rocket question

Hi all,

I'm genuinely curious, I’ve always loved my fruit and veggies, even as a kid and teen I’d eat whatever was put in front of me or at least try it. If anything I was only fussy with red meat/shellfish.

That being said I always hated rocket. I remember it being bitter and too peppery so I’ve avoided it for yonks. Recently gave it another go and I’m converted, I’m using it in allsorts at 34! Is this one of those things like olives where taste buds mature around to it?

I can’t believe the difference in the strength of it compared to what I remember, I don’t smoke or anything like that which would dull my senses.

Am I going mad?

I wouldn’t think so deeply….. be glad you discovered that your taste buds enjoy it 😋

I cannot bear tarragon but like rocket.
I can't see that ever changing.

No. Commercial rocket these days is a pale imitation of how it used to be. We grow our own but whenever I’ve had to buy it from the shop I have been disappointed — we like the strong, peppery flavour.

But if you prefer it as it is now, of course that’s good too.

Thanks all! I genuinely couldn’t make it stack up how much milder it seems from what I remember 😅

Our taste buds also decrease as we age, which means that our perception of taste changes at different stages of life.

The Supermarket ones are also not as strong as they once were (probably to make it more accessible to the masses).
