Velvetiser hot chocolate

I am trying to decide whether to invest in the Hotel Chocolat Velvetiser or opt for the Dualit hot chocolate maker, or perhaps consider something else entirely.

Le chocolat chaud is one of the pleasures I miss most about working in our Paris office. As I am unlikely to globe trot with DC quite so much these days, I would love to create a suitably indulgent, velvety, at home alternative. Sadly, my enthusiastic hand whisking simply does not suffice.

We have a velvetiser, but it only makes one cup and is tepid so you have to drink quickly. When my grandchildren all got into hot chocolate, I bought them one of these: https://www.smeguk.com/milk-frother/multi-milk-frother it makes two full mugs and makes really good hot chocolate.

It velvetises it 😁
I thought like you until I got one. Now I'd never go back. I also use mine for a velvety coffee. Just add oatmilk and a spoonful of instant coffee and it's lovely.

The hot chocolate shaker I posted earlier also velvetises it (well, it emulsifies it but that’s a non branded word for the same thing!). But you heat the milk to whatever temperature you want and it costs far less, and works beautifully!

I had the original velvetiser for years. Got the new one. It broke within two weeks. Got it replaced. Broke again. Got a refund. Gutted.

I always hear people say that their velvetiser doesn't make it hot but I have both models and the two of them make it quite hot imo.

We love ours. I was very sceptical when my husband got one but it's used daily. We use blocks of dark lindt or cacao, the sachets are very expensive. My kids are now utter hot chocolate snobs.
