Stupidly defrosted a veggie COOK quiche outside of the fridge overnight, instead of in the fridge over 24 hours. Will it still be OK to cook and serve?!

Of course it will!

Of course it will be ok
It’s vegetables

If it was meat I wouldn't, or if it was very hot weather but otherwise fine!

RaininSummer · 15/02/2026 09:18

Yes I would think so unless your kitchen was insanely hot. I leave veggie things out overnight all the time.

LittleBearPad · 15/02/2026 09:18

Yes of course. It’s just defrosted more quickly.

MidnightPatrol · 15/02/2026 09:18

I defrost everything by leaving it on the counter.

Never had a problem yet.

Mothalina · 15/02/2026 10:51

Thank you for responses! It was actually left out closer to 24 hours. As you all point out, it's veggie, do hopefully won't make guests ill!

It's also moist, eggy and milky, which means that it could be a potential host for food poisoning bacteria. Saying that, people have got e.coli from lettuce, so nothings 100% safe!

However, defrosting something at room temperature overnight doesn't seem long enough for anything nasty to develop, especially not if it's then going to be cooked until it's piping hot.

Bonbon21 · 15/02/2026 11:08

I presume you are serving it hot, in which case sit it on a preheated oven sheet so the bottom crisps up.

RedRosie · 15/02/2026 11:10

Is it the red pepper and goats cheese one? That's my favourite quiche ever! I'll have it and take the chance.

user2848502016 · 15/02/2026 11:20

Yes will be absolutely fine!
Make sure it’s thoroughly cooked through

Mothalina · 22/02/2026 22:13

Thanks everyone! Yes the goats cheese one! I made sure it was thoroughly cooked through, and at a hotter temp than advised. It went down a treat with guests and no one was so sick. I however sadly skipped it as am pregnant...

We didn't have a fridge until I was 10, didn't spend my childhood with constant food poisoning. Of course it would be fine, people are too cautious these days.
