I think I’ve been making my babies bottles wrong.

So we (my bf and i) typically make bottles and leave them in the fridge for the course of the day
we have started using these prepared bottles and separating them for feeds. For example, if we made a 240ml bottle, we will separate it into 2 120ml bottles. And since they have been in the fridge to bring them to a decent temperature to drink, we have been topping up the bottle with cooled boiled water and adding more formula.
Baby hasn’t poo’d in a week (he hadn’t been very regular before we started doing this) but I’m getting worried that he may be constipated and this is what’s caused it.
we are going to the doctors on Friday but any no judgemental advice would be nice

Aww my bubba is constipated atm! Poor soul. We haven’t changed anything so not necessarily the formula.

But I wouldn’t do this odd fridge stuff. Why bother when you are boiling and adding anyway.

Just make it fresh in a Nuby. Takes less than 2 minutes literally. If you have bubbles from the shaking add a drop of infacol and it’s instantly bubble free.

ok, definitely stop.

that's the first thing.

it sounds like you're adding water and formula not in proportion to the rules on the tub?

that's a massive no no as it isn't good for baby.

how old is baby?

I warmed the prepared stuff up the same way I'd heat formula that I'd put in the fridge - large cup of hot water, sit bottle in it and give a good shake, or buy a bottle warmer. always make sure you give a good shake.

I would recommend a bottle warmer or running the bottle under a warm tap or sitting in warm water rather than adding in additional scoops and cooled boiled water to get up to a better temperature for them.
Although not advised, I make up my babies bottles for the day and then store in the fridge to be reheated (we never have any that don't get drunk within 24 hours but if I did I'd pour them away and make fresh). Totally see the logic your following though - But a bottle warming solution might be better for baby and easier for you too.

if you make it up fresh, make sure you're only adding boiled water, not bottled or tap water to cool it down. we did use a bottle prep machine with the twins which made life easier too

Baby my is 5 months old

thanks we were doing that
I’m not even entirely sure why we stopped (I suppose for ease)
i definitely don’t want to harm baby so I’m stopping this today

Yep we do the same all bottles are drank within 24 hours (even less usually tbh)
but I’m going back to the regular way of warming bottles up

Formula comes with instructions on the back of the box/carton. Follow those.

The constipation could be all manner of things - try not to beat yourself up - hope the doctors can help you all out - or that poor babe gets the relief they need bless them

yes to echo others, constipation is common. What's good is that you've reached out to ask, and you're getting in with the GP.

have you started weaning yet? not suggesting you do, just another consideration on constipation

No weaning just yet as health visitor advised for us to start at 6 months
