I’m hoping it’s as simple as it looks but anyone tried it and have a foolproof method?

Erm. Whip it with an electric whisk, or in a stand mixer? I can't think of any other method.
Do you mean recipes with added flavourings in?

Do you add cream or milk?

I just googled it & it appears you add milk, cream or buttermilk etc. if you Google your can find loads of methods.

I did google but I wonder if it might be different for British butter as opposed to American butter which is more of a baking product than something you’d spread in bread.

I am surprised it needs cream or anything else adding. You can get butter pretty light and airy by just creaming it with a mixer if you think about creaking butter and sugar say. If you do need any I think it will be a massively minimal amount. I would get whipping and then add a few drops of milk or whatever if you can't get it loose enough. I would also consider salt content- I imagine you'll definitely want salted butter but if it's for eating with savoury food Vs as a garnish for pancakes and maple syrup or whatever, might change whether or not you want to add more salt. I imagine you could also whip minced garlic or herbs or both into it. Makes me think I might have a play for next time I make something I want to serve with butter.
