Changing tastes

Has anyone else have found that as they get older they start to dislike food that they always liked before. I am noticing more and more over the last few years.

For example today I went out for lunch with a work colleague and had a simple chicken and rice dish. Always loved chicken and rice both. Could not eat either . There was nothing wrong with either. Have had it also with mushroom,, most fish and loads of other food.It is annoying as heck.

Just wondering had anyone else had this and did it improve. I used to love cooking and also looking up menus (used to use them for cooking inspiration). Now when I look up menus I am shocked at how restricted I would be if I was ordering there and how many meals that were things that I used to love but now not touch.

Haha I feel sorry for kids who are told that you liked that dinner last week. I kinda know how they feel.

I found the opposite, that I enjoyed a vastly greater range of tastes and textures. Less keen on meat and sweets, maybe.

Until Covid. Suddenly I can totally relate to your experience. I have become a fussy eater again. I don’t fancy this and am disgusted by that. I used to be a keen cook, but I have completely lost my cooking mojo. I can’t bear meat at all now - except lamb chipolatas and Costco chicken schnitzel.

Yes, I was never a huge beef eater but now can’t really see the point at all. Mince, burgers, steak, roast beef all taste of nothing and disappointment….so don’t eat them. I’ve always liked veg and have found I like it much more now and cook more creative stuff and taste it more. DH has lost his sense of taste since Covid and finds veg and fruit are what he can taste now.

I use more herbs and lemon and vinegar to get clearer sweet and sour taste in the food too. Things like caponata work well.

Quite the opposite, in my 60s now and have become more adventurous with food, if anything.

I never made the connection with this and COVID. Thank you. The timelines fit.

I'll always eat anything ɓut I've gone off meat completely. I've actually gone off eating full stop.
