Peas, neeps and tatties

We either have steak pie, mash and veg(usually broccoli and cauliflower). Occasionally we have chips with it instead of the mash.

Dartmoorcheffy · 04/01/2026 09:16

Mashed potatoes, savoy cabbage and chantenay carrots

PersephonePomegranate · 04/01/2026 09:16

Brocolli, cauliflower, sweetcorn?

Potatoes are surplus as the crust is the carb element IMO.

Didshejustsaythatoutloud · 04/01/2026 09:16

Mash, roast, carrots and broccoli

FoFanta · 04/01/2026 09:17

Chips and peas

WhaleEye · 04/01/2026 09:17

Cabbage and roasted carrots. No potatoes.

DinoLil · 04/01/2026 09:17

Mashed potato and peas.

Plump82 · 04/01/2026 09:17

Chips and mushy peas

I usually have just a big pile of cabbagey greens with mine - I don’t think peas go well with beef so save them for lamb or chicken. DH also likes a few chips with his.

MarmaladeSandwich7 · 04/01/2026 09:28

Definitely mash! One of my fav meals is pie, mash made with double cream, peas, carrots & gravy depending on what the pie filling is.

roshi42 · 04/01/2026 09:37

Green veg - cabbage & green beans, I’d do. No potatoes for me as the crust of the pie is already carb, but I know mash is traditional.

Onelittledog · 04/01/2026 09:49

Mashed carrot and turnip, maybe a roast potato and gravy. I'm from the far North of England.

I'd still be hungry without potatoes of some sort

I'd have mash & veg either extra gravy. Really fancy pie now!

Want mash but only have smallish salad type potatoes...have to boil them and butter them like new potatoes.

Ive got marrowfat peas too

It depends here... on the quality and quantity of pastry. If theres a lot of nice pastry, then just cabbage or broccoli.

If not then "a hard stare", (pastry makes the pie!) followed by adding some mash (sometimes M&S colcannon mash in a pot which I love).

If your pie is cooking in the oven, toss your little salad potatoes in a little oil with salt and black pepper and throw them in the oven in a roasting pan, so they come out slightly crispy on the skins and all fluffy and soft inside!

Mumwithbaggage · 04/01/2026 12:13

I'd probably boil the potatoes with skins on then smash them up a bit. I also like prising the lid off the pie a few minutes before it's finished and whacking a bit of stilton in.

You filth monster. You’ll be forever my hero for introducing me to yet another way to get cheese into my diet.
