OK, so I don't need to loose tons of weight, just a few pounds from round the middle, but I am trying to be really healthy and cut out biscuits/cakes/muffins/chocolate - basically all my favourite things!

Tell me what I can eat that's healthy cos I'm struggling and feel permanently hungry no matter how much fruit and veg I eat. I've just eaten a bowl of kiwi and strawberreis with natural yoghurt on and then half a pot of hummus with carrot sticks - and I am STARVING!!!

Please help cos there's half a packet of chocolate digestives crying out from my desk drawer....

I have no idea but I stated WW online today and feeling quite virtuous.

Gobbledigook · 11/06/2008 15:00

I've done really well since Monday - not had a single biscuit or Starbucks muffin

I did drink over half a bottle of Veuve Cliquot last night but that doesn't count does it because it's not bread or chocolate

What sort of things are you eating?

soup is good for filling you up. you feel fuller cos of the liquid. porridge in the morning.

sadly hummous is really fattening.

eat more protein to stop hunger.

CantSleepWontSleep · 11/06/2008 15:02

Hummous is really fattening!

I am forced to not eat yummy things at the moment as I have gestational diabetes, but you do soon get used to a new regime, so try and stick with it.

I can't even eat lashings of fruit like you just have, as it contains too much fruit sugar which rockets my blood glucose!

Try changing what you eat at meal times to more wholewheat carbs (small portions of) with lots of veg, and snack on things like crackerbread with philly light, or if at home, porridge made with water (use proper oats, not the instant ones).

And put the biscuits in the bin so that they can't tempt you.

wheelybug · 11/06/2008 15:03

Are you eating well for breakfast and lunch - i.e. things that will stop you wanting to snack (porridge for breakfast ?).

Otherwise, rice cakes (in snack a jack form to make them a bit more palatable), popcorn (those little bags from M&S aren't too bad calorie wise).

I have been trying to be good for a while but the last two weeks ahve really really tried hard to make sure I don't snack.

Gobbledigook · 11/06/2008 15:03

I had soup for lunch. Still craving biccies.

Soup is actually quite high GI, so gives you a quick sugar hit but doesn't fill you up for long.

NomDePlume · 11/06/2008 15:05

I can eat pretty much anything but obv portions etc are smaller.

Today, as it is the 1st day I have been v virtuous.

Breakfast - 1/2 slice of crusty doorstop toast with jam (not so virtuous, I know).

Mid morning - Cup of Options mint hot choc (to curb my choc craving at work)

Lunch - Tesco chinese chicken noodle cup a soup. 4x wholewheat crispbreads with a scraping of lurpack and slices of cucumber and cherry tomato, seasoned.

Dinner - Discovery mexican fajitas (chicken) with green salad.

After all that I still have almost half of my daily points allowance left. Gawd knows what I'm going to do with those ! Mate said she was having to eat a Mars bar a day to make up her points &

CantSleepWontSleep · 11/06/2008 15:05

If you're taking lunches to work then try making something like a bulgar wheat salad with some ham or eggs, and a green salad.

Gobbledigook · 11/06/2008 15:06

Eeew, yeuk - all those things sound horrid.

Can't eat porridge, and with water - bleurgh!
Snack a jacks - I'd rather eat my own hand!

Could do crackerwheat thingies with philly on - that's a good idea.

I've done reducing carb intake before and it does make me less bloated and it's really only my stomach I'm bothered about. I'm still in size 8 clothes so not fat - just want to lose a few pounds and eat more healthily but I really, really love pasta, bread etc so I'm struggling not to eat it even though my stomach is flatter already.

at size 8. I no longer care about your diet .

Gobbledigook · 11/06/2008 16:47

Hmm, I knew I shouldn't have mentioned that. Honestly, the belly area is flabby and it's muffin-top time over jeans - I need to get rid of it before I have to wear a bikini!

Don't mean to sound patronizing, but are you sure you actually need to lose weight, Gobbledigook? At a size 8, I can't see how you'd be overweight (unless you're like 3 feet tall or something ) Maybe it's toning up that you need, rather than dieting? Sit-ups and the like?

I'm 5 weeks into WeightWatchers and it is brilliant - no foods are restricted at all (I live on bread, no need to restrict it at all) but my top tip is butternut squash. As filling as potato, but for virtually no calories, and yummy scrummy, too. And for cravings, chocolate Skinny Cow ice-creams. And tons and tons of Diet Coke

Stargazing · 11/06/2008 20:05

I'm a Carol Vorderman devotee ... have been on it for 3 months now (and have lost 20lb)
when I started, found that the afternoons were tough - biscuit cravings etc - but snacked on nuts & raisins, plus rye crackers with manuka honey. Fixed the sweet craving without busting the regime.
