Gammon - help!

So despite being in my 30s I’ve never got to grips with cooking and am also a poor planner!

I’ve got a gammon joint I need to cook and bring with me to Christmas dinner elsewhere tomorrow but for various reasons can only use the air fryer to cook it…

Sometimes I get lucky and there are air fryer instructions, alas I’ve not lucked out on this occasion!

Ive posted pictures here of the joint and the oven cooking instructions, can an expert suggest the temp and timings they think would work for the air fryer to make this delicious?

Also will I need to let it cool before putting in the fridge (cooking it in the morning and not eating until the afternoon)?

Any help very welcome!

I'd just follow the oven instructions but knock 10/15 minutes off, and yes let it cool before putting in the fridge.

You don’t have a hob available, do you? As the glaze is separate, if you do have a hob I’d cook it that way and maybe just finish off for a few minutes in the air fryer. IME makes for a nicer, moister, less overly salty result.

How big is the meat? I am doing a 2.4 kg right now and there is no way I would cook it in the air fryer, the outside would be hard before the heat got to the middle.

I would boil it for an hour or so, then glaze and air fry it, cutting it into smaller bits gives a greater glazed surface.

This is a similar product. Reduce the cooking time by at least 15 mins as yours is smaller. Instructions for air fryer are on the website above!

Ours is 1kg according to the packaging. Only have access to the air fryer tomorrow but thank you for the tips for next time 😊

Thanks so much. Maybe I’ll just go for this and hope for the best!

Just the air fryer tomorrow unfortunately but thank you anyway 😊

Omg what a good find thanks so much - this sounds like the answer! Fingers crossed even I can’t muck this up 😂

You’ve not got a slow cooker have you? I cook gammon in mine

soupyspoon · 24/12/2025 15:06

Is it your air fryer? If so, how does it normally cook?

I generally knock off about 20 degrees at least, sometimes more depending on what Im doing. Something for a 180, I will cook on about 160, it does depend on what it is though.

Ours is a small combi/air fryer thing.

Ooh ours is usually pretty true to instructions for other stuff I think!

OP, I would simmer it today and let it cool and then give it a 15 min blast in the air fryer tomorrow if it has a glaze.

CarterBeatsTheDevil · 24/12/2025 16:05

If you have a hob to hand today, I mean.
