I'd like to cook something festive and tasty using red cabbage for our Christmas lunch, could you share with me your very best recipe please?
Thank you!

I finely shred it with some red onion, then gently stir fry it in a little oil. Add balsamic vinegar, brown sugar, ginger cordial or preserved ginger, chilli powder, possibly some apple, and steam it with the lid on if it still needs cooking. Them I take it out of the liquid for a few minutes and reduce the liquid until it is sticky, and then make sure the red cabbage is coated in the sticky sweet and sour gingery goodness.

I don’t have a proper recipe.

A red cabbage, an onion, a baking apple, splash of water, desert spoon of brown sugar, splash of red wine vinegar, season, slow cook in oven, stir taste and add more sugar or vinegar to taste.

That sounds absolutely delicious, hadn’t thought of adding ginger.

Definitely Delias- we are not hosting Christmas Day and may consider cooking this on Christmas Eve just for smell and to go well with leftovers

Delia all the way! Recipe as linked by @Gardener82

I've made it for years - it's so good. Her recipe makes way more than you're likely to need, but it can be portioned up and frozen very successfully - just reheat when required.

This is the best. No apples, no spices or shit. Has converted red cabbage leathers. Chop red cabbage, removing the stem. Boil until soft. Drain. Add vinegar (about two tablespoons)and give a good stir (it should be pink at this point). Then add sugar (two tablespoons) and salt (a good shake). Return to the heat and stir until the sugar has dissolved. Taste. You may need more sugar, vinegar or salt. The flavour should be balanced, and sweet/sour. Add a knob of butter if you feel the urge.

Similar to other recipes posted on here: Red cabbage, red apple and red onion shredded, dash of red wine or cider vinegar, brown sugar and then slow cooked. I usually stir in some cranberry sauce and mix bacon lardons into it afterwards with a pinch of cinnamon.

That but with a twist of black pepper, seasalt, desert spoon of red wine vinegar, tablespoon of red wine or port. Cover tightly and bung at the bottom of oven for 90 mins.
