Christmas canapés ideas

Hello! Im hosting 16 for canapés before we head to another relative for the main meal.
I'd love to do a 'grazing table' of canapés, can anyone suggest things that are

A) easy to make in advance
B) don't require cutlery, so bite sized
C) not too much cheese as there will be a cheese course in the evening
D) no fish
E) bonus points of they use seasonal veg or cheap

Also, welcome cocktails.

So far I've found some on Instagram, im thinking dips like hummus and crudites, root veg crisps (made from cheap supermarket veg), some cured meats, fruit like grapes, chopped apples, nuts, bruschetta. Possibly little sherry glasses of soup... they're pretty so would love to use them if anyone can think of an idea.

Looking forward to some ideas. Thanks!

@TheSandgroper Shhhh don't tell people about sweet YPs, they are a secret.

OP I've thought of some more

Potato croquets. Mashed potato, which you can add herbs / chives /seasonings roll in to small balls, egg and breadcrumb and fry or oven bake.

Stuffing balls, either just the Paxo or you can make with pork.

Dim sum and gyoza - jut buy frozen.

Some sort of savoury biscuit, I would use mini cheddars, with a scraping of pate, home made or shop bought.

Garlic mushrooms.

Pesto mushrooms, grease a baking tray.
Take the stalks out of the mushrooms (I tend to use portobello) lightly oil the mushroom cap, put them face down and bake for 10 mins.

Chop the stalks finely and mix with pesto.

Take the mushrooms out of the oven, turn them over and fill with the pesto mushroom mixture.

Little gem “boats” work well. I’ve made them filled with crab meat, a squeeze of fresh lime and very finely chopped chilli as an example, but I know you don’t want fish.

If mozzarella gets past the cheese veto, you can skewer the small mozzarella balls, cherry tomatoes, a leaf of basil and an olive, then arrange in a circle to look like a wreath decorated with some more basil. Use a small plate though, otherwise you’ll have too much.

One thing I recommend against. Last year I fell for the holiday ideas stuff on Facebook groups, went all out and made a “charcuterie tree” with all sorts of things skewered on. Not only did it take bloody ages to do, pulling the sticks out was almost impossible and very awkward. There was way too much waste, won’t be doing that again.

Waitrose do mini pastry cases - they are very slightly sweet but this goes great with a bit of Brie and a dollop of cranberry and baked for 10 mins, so quick and they always go down great with everyone.

I do these two with a sprig of fresh rosemary and a pecan nut on top too.

Slice the top off cherry tomatoes and scoop out the pulp.

Finely chop black olive, a bit of garlic, shallot/ sp onion and mix with French dressing.

Stuff the tomatoes with the olive mixture.

Love this!!!

Thanks all! Cheese is allowed, I just didnt want it all to be cheese. Despite it being my favourite food group ever.

I love the sound of the mushrooms. And I really like the look of these little biscuits, maybe to dip into hummous/pepper dip/ make your own canapés.

Maybe I'll do a canapés build your own station, where everyone creates what they want. Saves me faffing about...
