Gluten free dessert recipes

I am looking for tasty gluten free dessert recipes. Ideally fruit based, rather than chocolate, but I will take both. I am hoping you have some tried and tested options that means I don't have to make a pavlova again (I make a good pavlova, I just am a bit bored of making them!).

Ability to prepare before dinner a must, and the easier (but with "wow" and "yum" factor) the better.

Main course still to be decided but likely to be some oven baked and robust (e.g. braised, stew or casserole), given the time of year.

Thanks in advance!

I was going to say roulade with meringue but that might be too similar to pavlova. Have a look at Ravi Gill’s recipes on bbc good food. The only one I’ve done is the twice baked chocolate cake but it was devine.

Lemon posset? Only three ingredients - double cream, caster sugar and lemon juice. (Four if you include lemon zest).

Really easy to make and very delicious.

Edited to add: it takes no more than 5 minutes to make, and can be made the day before if you need to.

Have you had a look at Becky excell books? She does lots of GF puddings.

I like lemon tart

Crinkle cookies

Chocolate cake

Eton mess. Meringue, cream and fruit.

cheesecake. My favorite. GF digestives are readily available and as they are crushed and soaked in butter they work fine.

Nigellas polenta cake. Cook day before, pour syrup on, leave in tin so it goes nice and sticky. Serve with raspberries and cream. Or cream and honey.

Fresh fruit salad. With a tot of Grand Marnier to add a little kick.

Rice pudding, don’t be shy with the lemon zest and vanilla.

Allow to cool a bit (or make it earlier ), stir through two whisked egg yolks, whisk the egg whites to soft peaks and fold through.

Bake in a moderate oven in a pan of water until risen, fluffy and golden. Serve with poached rhubarb, raspberries or plums.

It’s heaven.

I make a gf ginger cake. It’s also wonderful served warm.

Lemon curd eton mess

lemon posset

fruit suspended in jelly with custard/ ice cream (old school!)

trifle with something else as the sponge layer - meringue? Layer of slivered almonds?

basque cheesecake or a baseless cheesecake (maybe lemon with gelatine)?

TheSandgroper · 28/11/2025 13:24

@canklesmctacotits For your lemon with gelatine, allow me to introduce you to https://www.womensweeklyfood.com.au/recipe/dessert/lemon-chiffon-pie-11173/.

Also lovely with limes. Probably lovely with good oranges and Cointreau.

Note, if using gf biscuits, use less butter in the base. You can always use more if you need to but too much can’t be fixed.

I agree that Becky Excell recipes are worth a look. All the ones I’ve tried have been delicious.

Caramelised oranges

I make a gf tiramisu - I just use shop bought gf madalins cut in half then dipped into coffee and liquor.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 28/11/2025 19:41

Pears poached in red wine and spices, served with really good vanilla ice cream.

socool · 28/11/2025 19:53

Limoncello/traditional Tiramisu made with gluten free biscuits for the layers instead of the usual ones. Something like the shape and size of biscoff biccies works well.

Cheesecake with gf biccie base

Banoffee pie, same biccies.

These are not going to be exactly the same as using "full fat" biscuits but I've used gf and they're fine.

socool · 28/11/2025 20:09

Oh thanks so much for that link! I have two GF visitors coming around Christmas and guess what I'll be making for them now??

I have used GF Biscoff type bics in the trad Tiramisu, it was fine, but there's nothing like the spongy effect of Savoiardi is there really, I haven't seen GF version until now!. Limoncello Tiramisu here we come... thanks again.

ScaryM0nster · 28/11/2025 20:12

Crime brûlée is always fun if you’ve got a blow torch.

chocolate chestnut mousse is seasonal.

Plenty of trifle variations are gluten free and again seasonal.

Cheese cake
Apple crumble

Thingamebobwotsit · 29/11/2025 10:51

Thank you everyone there are some lovely ideas on here. Definitely some that might need testing without the requirement of a gluten free guest too!

Non-bake cheesecake with GF biscuit base. I make vanilla cheesecake, but I suppose you could make any flavour.
