Mince - is it safe to cook and eat when it's gone brown?

I have 2 packets of mince which are use by tomorrow. Bought them a couple of days ago but they've gone brown in the packet. Are they safe to cook and eat? Or does the fact that they've discoloured mean they've gone off?
Hate the thought of throwing them out, but obviously don't want to risk making us all ill!!!

It should be fine. It's just like steak "aging". Stick it in the freezer if you've not already frozen it

nailpolish · 09/06/2008 13:22

is it organic? organic goes brown quicker

fryalot · 09/06/2008 13:23

it will be fine.

It is quite natural for it to go a bit brown, the stuff that doesn't discolour is kept that way artificially.

As long as it is not green and doesn't smell off, it is perfectly safe to eat.

brown is just it oxidising I think. If it smells ok and is cooked well it should be fine.

zippitippitoes · 09/06/2008 13:25

its contaxct with air oxidation so fine

ja9 · 09/06/2008 13:26

as long as it doesn't smell rancid.

bumpbumpbump · 09/06/2008 13:34

oh thanks for all these replies! I don't think it smells rancid - tho as Aimsmum said mince never smells great! - will cook it and see!
