We're planning on visiting a castle on Saturday and I want to take a nice picnic with us. Does anyone have any ideas?

It will be dh and I plus our 3 children, 6, 4 and 17 months.

Last time we had a picnic (also at a castle!) I made this bread roll.

Make some bread dough - I can give you a recipe if you need.
After the dough has been left to rise. Kneed it again and then roll it out to a sort of rectangle shape.
Smear over some sun dried tomato paste. Add a layer of sliced mozzarella, then a layer of palma ham (or any ham) then I put in 2 or 3 boiled eggs depending on the size, then more layers of mozzarella and ham and maybe some basil. Then seal it up by pulling both long side up to meet at the top and pinch together then close up the other ends.
Put onto baking tray and leave to rest for 10/15 mins then bake for 20 mins (check it is golden on top and cooked underneath) at 180 or 200 C.

I slice before we leave then wrap in foil and a tea towel. It may even still be warmish when you get there. It may seem a bit of faff but well worth it. My dc love it!

This is a dough recipe that can be used for pizza or calzone or dough balls (makes 20) or the above recipe. You can always double it to make 2 if there are lots of people.

375g strong bread flour
1/2 tsp salt
2 x 6g sachets fast action yeast (I use tesco's)
2 tbsn olive oil
275ml warm water

mix flour, salt and yeast together, make well in centre and add oil and water. Now keep mixing, best with your hands until it forms a dough. Now, flour an area of worktop or table and keep kneading for at least 3 mins, or more if you can.
Then place in a large, oiled bowl. Cover with cling film and let it rise for at least 20 mins (I leave it for a couple of hours sometimes and it is fine).

Now it is ready to make into roll or pizza etc - remember you can change the filling if you want.
Have a good time
