World cuisine of the month

I've got this crazy idea of focusing on trying new recipes from a different country each month! So... which country screams December at you? And January? Or any other countries/months come to that! I guess the weather, which foods are available seasonally etc will affect the calendar!

I would look north, so Nordic recipes for one month. And maybe the alps for another? Or curries to warm the soul? They're often legume based so not as reliant on seasonal food?
Great, if slightly crazy, idea.

I think it’s a great idea! I used to pick a cookbook each month and try a few different recipes from the same book. It worked well because many specialist ingredients could be used for a few different dishes so less waste when you buy a one off ingredient you’ll never use again. I imagine this could be similar.

I’d choose a country whose food you’ll be happy to eat at that time of year. Maybe somewhere with lots of stews or comfort food through the winter.

This is a great idea. We did this our first holiday after lockdown. I wasn’t really sure how much would be open or what we’d feel comfortable doing. So I made meals special and we did a different country every day.

I’d do Switzerland or Scandinavian (I know that’s not one country but there’s a lot of overlap).

For January though, I’d go warm and fun - Jamaica or Brazil, etc.

Love this idea! Not the same but we cook dishes from wherever the F1 race is that week and we have so much fun doing it. For December I'd be tempted to go for somewhere like Poland, cabbage rolls, bigos, Pierogi, etc but for January I'd be tempted to go for something lighter as December is always super indulgent, maybe Japanese?
