What would be the correct way to chop leeks for a soup recipe?

I bought a pack of leeks, carrots and a pack of vegetable stock cubes yesterday from the supermarket. I noticed that on the back of the bag with the leeks in, it mentions cutting off the roots, the green ends and then chopping the leeks finely lengthwise. I am not sure what it means to chop finely lengthwise. Can you not just cut it into horizontal pieces?

For soup making, I trim the leeks, cut length-wise and then cut across at 1cm intervals to create small dice that fit nicely on a soup spoon.

Or if you are going to puree the soup, just rough chop, cook and then stick-blend.

But you do whatever you prefer.

It makes no difference to the soup which way you cut the vegetables.

You can cut them any way you want. I do find that at least one slice lengthways lets you wash and dirt out.

I cur them horizontal for sautéing and soups and they seem to do fine

be sure to soak them and rinse them really well They can be full of sand
