Any (white) fish recipe ideas to feed 9 people?

Hi, I've got my friend coming to dinner with her DH, DC 17 & 19 and FIL. They all eat fish, some eat meat, and my family (me, DH, DC 15 & 9) are omnivores. I was thinking of something like salmon en croute but it transpires that they don't like oily fish. So I guess I'm looking for ideas for white fish to feed a crowd please! TIA!

I haven't done this in ages so dont' have a specific recipe but I'm sure you could find one easily - but white fish wrapped in parma ham and baked is great. I think I used to do it roasted with some cherry tomatoes and then made a lentil sort of stew thing. But if I did it now I think I'd roast it with just fish and parma ham and then maybe roast tomatoes with flavourings, add white beans and maybe some spinach, and create a bed for the fish that way. You could serve with buttered new potatoes.

Make a thick sauce with olive oil, canned and fresh chopped tomatoes, dollop of purée, finely chopped red and yellow pepper and salt, pepper, green herbs to taste.
Place fish, fillets on top cover with a crumb, Parmesan and herb crust and bake in hot oven, 200 fan, for about 12-15 minutes.

A simple fish pie with peas and green beans and a hunk of sourdough on the side.

Put any fish you like in a oven proof dish ( I usually use boneless smoked basa)
Make parsley sauce and pour over the fish.
Top with mash potatoes and a sprinkle of cheese
Pop in the oven for half an hour

Simple food done well can't beat it perfect for these Autumn days. Even better with a nice glass of red.

Personally I like smoked haddock risotto, kedgeree style but risotto. You can pimp it up and present it nicely. Use proper stock and white wine in it etc. curry powder, curry leaves, cardoman, chilli.. boiled or crispy friend egg on top. Phwoar. Can’t go wrong!
Otherwise sea bass with crushed new potatoes and fine green beans is nice but will be very expensive for a few people.
Or hake, white wine sauce, pea puree and polenta chips. Another expensive one.
Or Thai red curry with white fish?

Really easy white fish:

Get a few jars of Sacla Intenso Stir-In Tomato and Olive paste (it comes in little jars; it's intended as a quite intense pasta sauce, but you can use it for other things. It is really good; Delia Smith recommended it as one of her 'cheat' buys). You probably need one jar for every 3 or 4 servings of fish.

Put the white fish on a baking tray and spread the paste thickly on the fish.

Bake uncovered as needed until fish is cooked (usually about 30 mins at about 180C).

Honestly, if this were me, I’d go vegetarian. It’s not an easy feat to produce 9 portions of fish well cooked whilst entertaining. Just because they do eat fish doesn’t mean they need to eat it every meal.

It isn’t what you’re asking, but I’d go for something like a butternut squash and spinach lasagna with roasted veg, salad and garlic bread.

Or I’d do something like a mezze with lots of little dishes and dips, heavy on the vegetarian, with flatbreads and salad.

If you make a good Thai curry and they eat prawns, you could also go for a prawn curry as much easier to do to scale without overcooking. With rice, steamed veg, some little dim sum things (bao buns, gyoza, spring rolls all store bought), prawn crackers. This can all pretty much be prepared and then you heat and tip prawns in at the end.

This baked Greek fish is lovely https://www.themediterraneandish.com/baked-greek-fish-psari-plaki/ and very simple. Plus you could make the sauce the day before if you were pressed for time. I’ve made it with her Greek potatoes or you could just serve with some nice bread and maybe some greens.

Yum, some delicious-sounding recipes here, thanks all! I should have added maybe, DH is a die-hard carnivore who wouldn't contemplate a meal without some kind of animal protein which is why I've gone for fish - and I'm allergic to shellfish so can't eat prawns. I'll probably do fish tacos as my guests love that kind of Mexican-style food but will keep the other ideas as some will make great weeknight family meals too! Thanks!

If your friends don't like oily fish, I'd check whether they eat smoked fish or seafood before settling on anything involving that. Simple fish pie or baked fish with a crispy layer on the top both sound good. I love a decent fish pie made with leeks and cheese in the mash, layer of spinach in the base and a mix of smoked haddock, salmon, prawns and some good chunky white fish, but that would be no good here, unless you could make two, with one just having white fish. Probably too fiddly, though.
