No lentils or chickpeas either. Can eat goat's cheese and lactose free milk.

I always seem to end up cooking them leg of lamb with roasted veg.

Any other ideas?

With a list like that, I think I'd be inclined to ask them! What do they cook for themselves on special occasions, or think of as a celebration meal? Hopefully it will at least give you a starting point, and you can be sure they will like it/ it will suit their needs.

Shaved ice and cordials?

eatreadsleeprepeat · 03/11/2025 15:58

Venison casserole, mash with dairy free milk, green veg. Pears poached in red wine for pudding.

Fish
Loabster
Mussels

A kind of vegetables

I love Shepherds Pie and homemade pizza I just adjust to no gluten/milk.

I'm coeliac and lactose intolerant. If you asked me I'd suggest Thai (with rice or rice noodles), possible Masaaman or red curry. At home I cook pasta dishes with GF pasta (taste is pretty close to normal pasta, so you could serve it to everyone. You can get lactose free cheddar (Lactofree) or feta (only in Waiteose now afaik). Or go Greek with stifado or moussaka. I'd also be really happy with a roast. If you need a tastee, I'll get my coat!

-Tagine served with a chopped Lebanese-style salad (sort of tabbouleh without the grains)
-Any kind of curry, with all the trimmings
-Spanish-style cod with patatas bravas and green beans

Or there's loads of things you could adapt with df alternatives - e.g. joint of roast beef served with gratin dauphinoise (made with lactose-free milk and plant cream) and your choice if green veg.

Or you could make a delicious pie and top it with mashed potato?

JadziaD · 03/11/2025 16:15

I think a good casserole is your friend here, with rice most likely. Can't go wrong with a good beef or lamb casserole.

or a side of salmon, served with new potatoes and wilted greens?

some kind of curry served with rice or rice noodles (are rice noodles gluten free?) Is the person actually coeliac because then you need to check things like soy sauce are gluten free as they might not be.

Steak and chips with salad

Palsywalsy · 03/11/2025 16:18

Vietnamese, Indian and Thai cuisines would be pretty good.

mamagogo1 · 03/11/2025 16:22

lamb and veg tagine with couscous?

mamagogo1 · 03/11/2025 16:22

I have gf couscous

Abra1t · 03/11/2025 16:23

Fish curry with rice.

Couscous is not GF.

HelloCharming · 03/11/2025 16:32

Thai is a good shout - they like spicy food and really like veg. Or possibly tagine with rice instead of couscous.

Beef in red wine with rice and lots of greens. Pudding of meringues with caramel or chocolate sauce, and berries.

Chewbecca · 03/11/2025 16:44

How about a fish dish like Ottolenghi's salmon puttanesca with rice or crunchy potatoes (& veg)?

BlindSpotForCats · 03/11/2025 16:53

I'm newly vegetarian but if I were not I'd say a salmon tray bake or my favourite in days of yore... baked salmon with turmeric spiced rice (with raisons and almond flakes) and broccoli.

Asian food is great for gluten and dairy free! Salmon, prawns, beef, pork.....
Have a look at the Pho restaurant menu, nearly everything they do meets your criteria Menus - Pho Restaurants - Healthy Vietnamese Food

JadziaD · 03/11/2025 17:55

Asian food is good, I agree, but another reminder - miso, soy and other fermented foods are often NOT gluten free so check the ingredients and allergents of whichever brand you are buying.
