Recipes for chocolate cake with real chocolate in?

I have seen lots of recipes for chocolate cake with real chocolate in but most seem to involve folding in whisked egg whites.
Is there a simpler version?

Just fancied having a cake that was more chocolatey and moister than the ones just made using cocoa powder.

I find the nicest chocolate ckaes are the gateaues, make with plain sponge, but cut really thin so you have 7 or 8 layers, with lots of chocolate mouse filling between each layer!

I haqve an easy real choc cake recipe somewhere around here, I'll have a shufty and post it if you like?

4 eggs
4 oz caster sugar

beat together in a bowl over a pan of simmering water, until light and thick and pale. Remove from the heat, continue beating until cool, then carefully stir in:

10oz melted chocolate (milk or dark, whatever your preference)

Fold into this mixture:

4oz plain all purpose flour
1tspn baking powder

Bake in pre-eated oven for 40-45 minutes (150C, gas mark 2, 300F)

Cut the cooled cake into three layers. Sandwitch with your favourite chocolate filling and cover in chocolate icing.

I use a 20cm/8 inch round tin for this and also make two circles of mirangue the same size to sandwitch between the layers of cake. The mirangue has coffee esence and ground brazil nuts in it for a bit of variety.

not sure if I'm supposed to do it or not, but I have just substituted a bar of chocolate for the cocoa powder and followed a choc cake recipe.

It always turned out ok

Thanks for such fast replies!!!
OverMyDB - I think i can handle that recipe!! But if I do it - will I end up with scrambled egg??
Would it be ok to just cut into 2 layers??
Sorry for basic questions, I'm not super confident about cakes.

Kepp the water down low, and the bowl over it above the water, not sitting in it, and you shouldn't end up with scrambled egg! Honest.

And yes, two layers will be fine too.

Good luck, let us know how it turns out! (oh, and send me a peice!)

did you make it?
