Can anyone recommend me a stick blender for making soups (preferably metal)?

I've never had a stick blender but I've seen it mentioned a few times on MN that they are good for soups. I also read that plastic ones can melt. What do you use (if you have one)?

Mine's a Russell Hobbs one with the 'Marco Pierre White' name on it. It's metal and I've had it for many years. I used it often. It's great.

I have a dualit one. The blending part comes off and can go in the dishwasher. It also has a mini food processor and whisk. I would recommend it, even though it’s not cheap. I don’t think I paid full price for mine.

I have a Russell hobbs hand blender bought 21 years ago to blend dc1 food its still going strong and no problems with melting plastic. Probably dont make them like that now.
Ive actually just bought a daewoo soup maker (a bit of a marmite product on mumsnet) as I have disabilities and was struggling to use my hand blender, can definitely recommend a soup maker if you make it regularly (I usually make a batch once a week sept to march).

If you buy a metal one you can’t use it in your saucepans.

Braun

Braun, had it for years and use it in my (stainless steel) saucepans all the time!!!

You can as long as they're not non-stick or liable to be scratched. I use mine in my stainless steel saucepans all the time. Also the blades on mine are set inside the end 'cone' so they never come into contact with the pan.

I just use a soup kettle which are bloody amazing IMO.
ive had a few stick blenders and they’ve all been pretty good too

If you want the Rolls Royce of stick blenders look at a Bamix. They're metal and indestructible.

I’ve had a dual lit one for over 25 years. It’s fabulous.

Nothing you are cooking will get hot enough to melt plastic. It will melt if you put it on the lit hob by accident, obviously. Stick blenders are dirt cheap and all do the same job, so if you crave a lovely one knock yourself out and get it, but it won't make your soup taste any different.

Soontobe60 · 28/10/2025 16:53

Mine is from Middle of Lidl!! Cheap as chips and really easy and quick to use.

DiscoBeat · 28/10/2025 16:54

I have a Braun multi quick 7, it's a metal one. I used it today for some lentil soup!

muddyford · 28/10/2025 17:05

I've had a Lakeland one for ages. Nice powerful motor.

fairislecable · 28/10/2025 17:12

Bamix is the most amazing stick blender, I have had mine for 30 years and only needed to replace the blades.

I have various attachments for herb chopping and grating and would not be without it.

AquaLeja · 28/10/2025 17:25

I have a very old Braun stick blender which works well but if I don’t keep it flat I get splattered.
Bamix is the Rolls Royce as PP say.
From the Middle of Lidl I bought Breville Blend Active which keeps me and the kitchen much cleaner. It’s also used for smoothies, crunching its way through frozen cubes of fruit.
