Upf free and also gluten free food that will last 36 hours out of fridge

Am away at an event in a couple of weeks and won't have access to a fridge . The food also needs to be easy to eat /not too messy, as I will basically be finding brief moments to eat when things are calm

I go every year ,but the added challenge this year is that I have cut all UPF and gluten out of my diet and feel much better as a result. But I am a bit lacking in inspiration what I could take food wise?

Has to be nut free food too.

What will the temperature be like? Will you have a kettle or campfire? Anything?

I suppose you’re going to be thinking about a type of bread made with maize, like maize tortilla wraps or cornbread, maybe? A polenta bread? (Most gf bread is horrible IMO but these are nice from specialty bakeries or you can make them.)

Then maybe hard cheese, tomatoes, pickles, olives, tinned tuna/sardines/salmon. Possibly an unshelled boiled egg or two for Day #1. Seasonings etc.

Use a cool bag with ice blocks. Don’t forget the tartan rug.

Off the top of my head:
flapjacks sweet and savoury.
yogurt might be ok out of the fridge
Canned tuna/ canned sweetcorn and unopened mayonaise would be ok.
Those sachets of lentils/ cous cous/ grains ? ( check ingredients I think some are upf free)
Oat cakes/ Rice cakes with mashed avocado

We'll be indoors /in a hotel, just doing such long days that need food handy.

(So no cooking facilities)

Assuming you need stuff that's safe at ambient temps and more substantial snacks than actual meals:

Nuts
Dried fruit
Babybel
Bananas/other fruit
Home made flapjacks

My standard GF emergency food when travelling is Doves Farm Freee range of organic cereal bars (less processed than many cereal bars).

Do you know if there will be a fridge/mini bar in the room?

What are the other people planning to do for food? Eating out? Or relying on pot noodle type eating?

ItsOnlyHobnobs · 25/10/2025 19:15

Sorry, please ignore me! You said in your first line you won’t have access to a fridge!

Back to the what is other people’s plan for eating though. And how many meals do you need? Or is it more about snacks?

Everyone will just bring a bag of snacks really. There isn't time to eat proper meals
I am ashamed to say I normally powered through on crisps/biscuits /ready made sandwiches previously

Homemade popcorn.

I quite like air fryer chickpeas, a spritz of oil and some paprika/any other seasonings you fancy and into the air fryer (can put on a flat tray in the oven.) They are a good alternative to savoury crisps for snacking.

Apples, easy peelers, bananas.

would you be able to but ice or take some from the hotel bar to make an ice bucket fridge?

agree with hard cheese/ yogurt / flap jack

in addition I would take a big bag of carrots, bag of apples/ satsumas, cucumber, homemade tatziki, variety of nuts

depending how strict you are I’d take a bag or two of those expensive extra virgin olive oil crisps , dates and olives

maybe a quinoa salad for the first night too.

you can get nice rice noodles that you soak in boilwd water for 4 mins too cook. you could have those with butter and cheese.

TumbledTussocks · 25/10/2025 20:41

m&s also have a only x ingredients range. definitely processed food but if you’re struggling there’s cereals and bars that are better than many others

eta the yutaka miso paste is additive free and would a nice easy cuppa soup or with the rice noodles

TumbledTussocks · 25/10/2025 20:47

sorry totally missed nut free

CarefulN0w · 25/10/2025 22:04

I think some of the merchant gourmet sachets are low in UPF, so not perfect, but perhaps a good compromise. I follow a UPF free page on instagram and have just seen corn snacks on there that might be useful.

Gf oatcakes with cheese
Fruit
Vegetables
Hummus
Boiled eggs
Cottage cheese
A gf wrap or pitta
