Why don't potatoes count towards your five a day?

They are a vegetable aren't they? Is that they are low in nutrients? I eat potatoes most days of the week.

I think it's because they're mostly starch and hardly any vitamins.

(I think it's unfair too )

claricebeansmum · 05/06/2008 10:35

Who says they don't?

They don't count.

By the same token, presumably you should be counting rice and bread (made from wheat, after all, a vegetable).

But no, carbs don't count.

WendyWeber · 05/06/2008 10:40

No, they don't count at all - see No 2 here from the NHS.

LittleMyDancing · 05/06/2008 10:43

it's because they're too nice. nice things aren't allowed to be healthy.

Goober · 05/06/2008 10:43

Somebody should do something!

Saturn74 · 05/06/2008 10:44

Anyone else relieved to see that we can get top tips from Patsy Palmer on that site?

claricebeansmum · 05/06/2008 10:44

How stupid

Goober · 05/06/2008 10:46

Baked carrots,
roast broccoli,
mashed couliflower.
They just not the same. I love spuds.

OsmosisBanana · 05/06/2008 10:47

there is vit C in pots. They're not all bad

Seona1973 · 05/06/2008 12:42

sweet potatoes count though so you could do them every so often instead of the bog standard ones
