Just counted for you - 76.
Hardly ever use them but I am old and cordon bleu trained.

Favourites are: Elizabeth David, Eliza Acton, Reader's Digest Cookery Year, a late 70s M&S cook book, M&S cooking for two, Delia, Nigel Slater and Pru Leith's Cookery Course, and last but not least Rose Elliot's Vegetarian cook book, and cooking for Paupers c 1979.

LarryIsMyRomanEmpire · 13/10/2025 19:29

Around 300, and no.

Seaside3 · 13/10/2025 19:29

I just have Nigel slater ones, which i love to read. Most used is 'how to be a domestic goddess' by nigella. But you be honest though, i mainly use Instagram for ideas.

LindorDoubleChoc · 13/10/2025 19:30

At least 20, maybe 30. Doubt I look at a recipe in a book more than 3 times a year now Sad.

oncemoreuntothebeachdearfriends · 13/10/2025 19:32

94, all used regulalry. Favourite is always the last one I bought.

3catsandcounting · 13/10/2025 19:33

Around 60. I read somewhere that the average number per household is 15. 😂😂
I use my Roasting Tin books the most. Delia usually gets an airing at Christmas.

GordonRamsey · 13/10/2025 19:44

More than 20, never look at 'em. Make it up as I go along, although I do have the voice of Zena Skinner going through my mind when cooking.

( I have the voice of Barbara Woodhouse in my head when taking my dog for a walk, and Patrick Moore when it's a full moon.)

TeamToeBeans · 13/10/2025 20:14

About 30, but rarely use them. Every so often I think I should declutter them, so start going through them to choose, but then I get distracted by all the things I want to cook, so I keep them. I keep thinking I’ll nominate one night a week to cook something new from one of the books, but haven’t actually had time to sit and choose some recipes.

motleymop · 13/10/2025 20:18

I reckon I've got about 30. Half of them are fairly dead to me. Current fave is Recipes That Work by Hello Fresh.

Norugratsatall · 13/10/2025 20:28

I have 60. Rarely consult them. Mainly because DH is now the chef now he’s retired! 😁

onceuponatimeinneverland · 13/10/2025 20:32

I did have about 50 but got rid of loads last year as never used them. i've got about 12 left. x4 Delia Smith and the rest are random ones plus a couple of birthday cake inspiration

user1497787065 · 13/10/2025 20:36

I have about 30 and cook recipes from about 12 of them five out of seven nights each week. Mostly Mary Berry.

HeidiLite · 13/10/2025 20:38

A few dozen. Used regularly, at least a couple of times per week. Favourites are Roasting Tin and Meera Sodha books.

ShoeCanRun · 13/10/2025 20:40

About 130, and use them almost every day. Some favourites are Rick Stein’s India, Gordon Ramsay Quick and Delicious, the red and yellow Roasting Tin books by Rukmini Iyer, and the rather unassuming 100 Quick Stir-Fries by Ken Hom. Also love anything by Diana Henry, Ottolenghi, and Sabrina Ghayour.

Flakey99 · 13/10/2025 20:41

Over 100 cookery books by various authors even though I’m a crap cook really. 😂
I enjoy reading them as books and will look up recipes occasionally.

About ten. A couple of air fryer specific ones, Pinch of Nom ones are quite good…my favourite one though is the one my boyfriend hand wrote me a few years ago with all of our favourite recipes/meals we cook together in it. It’s so precious to me!

Ilikecocacola · 13/10/2025 21:06

Most by Jamie Oliver

Maraudingmarauders · 13/10/2025 21:15

About 100. Not as often as I should considering and I’m guilty of going back for the same recipes, thousands I haven’t tried. Anja Dunk is a reliable favourite, just had her potato soup for dinner. Ottolenghi for lunch gatherings. I have a beloved Italian cookbook which is my bible for family dinners.

CurlewKate · 13/10/2025 21:21

Loads. Never.🤣

CurlewKate · 13/10/2025 21:23

Oh, that’s not true. I use Ottolenghi because my cooking instinct doesn’t work with his stuff-I have to use the recipe.

Storynanny1 · 13/10/2025 21:29

I got rid of most of mine that I never looked at a few years ago so now have 2 Only ever use one ( God Housekeeping cookery book 1975) to look up proportions for different cake, bread, pastry recipes and one other which is a collection of recipe cuttings from over the years since my first child was born in 1982!
oh forgot I sometimes use the pamphlet that came free in a magazine in the 90’s for recipes using campbells condensed soup!
All recipes are now made up or from memory
I could live with no books easily and just google if I forget how to do something.

ShoeCanRun · 13/10/2025 22:36

I might have to expand onto a second bookcase soon.

Ohwhatfuckeryitistoride · 14/10/2025 09:45

About 200. And no. They got moved two years ago when I had my kitchen done. The plan was a nice tall bookshelf for them. But haven't found one and they haven't been missed, so they are going. But where? Too many(and many too dated) for chazzas and i hate the thought of them going to landfill. Im keeping a select few.

PaddlingSwan · 14/10/2025 11:29

A lot, probably between 100 and 200 real ones and countless digital ones. I also have quite a few from countries I have visited as I find they are excellent and useful souvenirs.
I read them all the time, but very rarely make any of the recipes. I generally used them for ideas/inspiration or information.

Storynanny1 · 14/10/2025 17:31

Does anyone have the vintage Cranks cookbook? The only thing I ever made were the delicious energy bars
