Best/easiest dauphinoise potato receipe (to serve with ham in coke)

Please 🙂 Ideally suitable for making in advance then reheating later. Plan to serve with ham in coke which I will do in slow cooker. Finally, what else would you serve with it, salad or veg? It needs to be easy as short on time as will be working that day.

Thank you x

Rosemary Shrager's potato recipe and petit pois a la francaise (Nigella).

This is the recipe I use, so easy! Instead of Gruyère I just use cheddar. I’ve done it with veg in the past something light like green beans but I’m sure salad would work too! https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/dauphinoise-potatoes

Another vote for the bbc good food recipe linked by @me24x

it always comes out well but personally I find it needs to be cooked a little longer to get the potatoes soft enough.
It freezes great too.

Thank you, I will do a trial run of the BBC one tonight and report back.

Reporting back as promised. It was v nice but I agree it needs more cooking than the recipe says - more like an hour as opposed to the 30 mins in the recipe and it could still have done with a bit more really. Next time I will simmer the potatoes for more than 3 minutes beforehand. Written recipe forgets to mention seasoning, although the video mentions seasoning the layers. Will also add seasoning to the sauce next time. Reheating the rest tonight.

Nigella’s recipe is great- you simmer the potatoes in the milk and cream first then just finish in the oven. No risk of undercooking because that all happens
at at the first stage, which you can do ahead of time

I buy it ready made from Aldi - the stuff in the cardboard box. Honestly, it’s totally delicious, everyone always comments on how good it is.

I saw this cheat recipe that sounds awful / delicious tinned potatoes, boursin, top with grated cheddar. Disgusting (delicious) don't you think?

The BBC recipe also says to simmer the potatoes first but only for 3 minutes, definitely needs longer!

Honestly? The frozen Aldi special ones are absolutely amazing.

I always serve dauphiniose potatoes with roasted carrots , broccoli and whatever meat / veggie option .

I like them a little more saucy, so that's how I do them. And more garlic, and I like a firm potato. It's hardly any bother to make your own, and you can get it the way you like it. Either I've become more particular, or the ready-made versions have gone downhill.
