Has anyone tried these for cake decorating.....??

I am not quite sure whether this should be posted here, arts/crafts or parties/celebrations, so apologies.

Has anyone tried these daisy cutters for making sugar flowers for cake decorating? Are they any good?

I have been asked to do a cake for pil's ruby wedding party, these delicate flowers are just the sort of thing mil likes... so was going to do the cake iced in white with some red flowers 'scattered'. Are these cutters oging to be up to the job? (before I splash out?)

I'm hopeless at making flowers, but found those really good - I used them to make little flowers, but also pushed them gently into the icing and then outlined them with royal icing which looked pretty and gave a bit of contrast.

Oh yes, they will definately do the job and make lovely little professional looking flowers.

I am very good at baking cakes but rubbish at anything artistic, so am hoping they will be a good buy! Cheers

Another good option though if you don't want to splash out is real flowers dipped in sugar, they look beautiful. Passion flowers where especially effective.

My Mum (who makes and decorates wedding cakes etc) has some of these.

I borrowed them to do a cake for DD and found them excellent and easy to use. Result is really effective.

That sounds lovely too. But it needs doing a bit in advance, then has to travel. Will bear that in mind for future tho...

made a practice buttermilk chocolate one yesterday as dh has promised a girl in his work I'd do one for her

she wants to pass it off as her own though so has asked me to do it a bit wonky

not a problem - all my cakes taste nice but look wonky I don't have the patience for the decorating, I just want to eat them

They are good. I use them a lot. They are quite small though. I tend to use them for decorating cup cakes more. Mind you I have a 5 30 litre plastic boxes full of equipment/tools etc for cake decorating so plenty of stuff to choose from

I was just about to suggest PPC find you coneOVeneer!!

was thinking about you yesterday as I decorated that chocolate cake dipping the palette knife in hot water before the icing and it worked - was very chuffed with myself but now a but as realise its probably a very basic obvious thing to do

Oh, and I usually do my flowers with silk ones - can be taken apart and put back together loads to get them right and travel perfectly, and then make a nice keepsake. Big range available from garden centres. For the PILs ruby cake I did them in the flowers she'd had in her bouquet, and the cake in pale peach which was her wedding colours. I put it on a oversized board which I'd covered in a really pretty peach fabric with confetti over, and then sticky backed plastic over that.

I am self taught tbh, altough I am looking into doing a few courses next year once ds is in reception. Have 3 more comissions lined up - an 18th, a 60th and a wedding, plus my fathers and my FIL birthdays. I may even make MIL one for her 60th in the Autumn

Nah - not professional at all, but I need the DIL points ! And I've discovered that if you do a really nice board and some flowers you can just whack some precoloured fondant icing on a cake and people will be amazed. Same goes for really nice ribbon round the sides !

Metal ones are better as they give a much cleaner cut(the plastic is thicker than the metal). I have both and much prefer the metal ones.
