Vegetable boxes- do you save, spend more or the same?

Don’t eat a lot of meat and we’re a family of 3 adults now and thinking it’s better for the environment .

Would probably base the week’s shop around using the box so do they work out more expensive, the same or even less?

It may depend on where you get them from, but we found that veg boxes were often more expensive than buying equivalents at the supermarket, so not a good deal from a cost saving perspective.

However, the veg were much nicer, they encouraged us to eat a wider range of vegetables than we might other wise do, and also encouraged us to eat a greater quantity of vegetables in our meals. So from a health perspective they were great!

More expensive but noticeably nicer. The selection didn’t work for me, but it caused me to go to the green grocers for my veg instead of the supermarket.

Spend more but the veg are so much better. Not only tastier, i also find them easier to peel (not dried out like realised supermarket veg is from long transport or storage), cook better (esp kale roasted) etc. Plus it encourages us to try new things.

I use odd box sporadically, great stuff but even the smallest box is too much for me.

I thought about it, but you get what you're given. And even the smallest box was too much for 2.
e.g. I like hispi, but not savoy; spinach but not kale

Definitely more expensive. We eat a lot of fruit and veg in our house and I rarely spend more than £20-30 per shop at Tesco on fresh fruit/veg and get a huge amount compared to the boxes. I’d much rather spend on bog standard fruit and veg, then spend a bit extra at the market or a green grocer for a few special things like heirloom tomatoes or Isle of Wight garlic or salad leaves or similar. I don’t need fancy broccoli every week.

More expensive by far. We gave up because we’d get eg 4 cabbages for a week. I get in season eating and totally agree with it but the variety wasn’t enough

I get one from local green grocer, as opposed to a national company. It's not organic but it is as fresh as a daisy and is £20 for as much fruit and veg as four vegetarians can humanly eat in a week. Bargain.

Its more expensive mostly but fruit and veg are better quality, more taste and so it encourages you to eat more fruit and veg. We don't get the box as too many weird veg in and no fruit but can order individual items but it is a £50 minimum charge. We do about half fruit and a third veg/potatoes and rest is things like eggs / fruit juice. The eggs are so much better as well.

We get strawberries, apples, pears, 2nd lot of apples, posh apple juice, eggs, corn on the cob, chinese cauliflower, cabbage, potatoes, leeks and its grown on the farm / locally.
