dinny · 03/06/2008 20:54

bread, cheese, wine - less is more

VaginaShmergina · 03/06/2008 20:58

Would it be too common to put out some pickled onions with the bread and cheese ?

Failing that, some pickled onion monster munch..........

Off to raid the fridge, very impressed with all suggestions btw

Sorry RL friends came around to say HB.

We tend to do stinky cheese, crusty bread, and continental meats, with lashings of red wine.

Welsh Rarebit, followed by hot chocolate.

talilac · 03/06/2008 21:20

Cheese, grapes, crackers & red wine.

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/06/2008 21:22

if the weather is like this chicken noodle soup

milge · 03/06/2008 21:23

I would have either some home made soup, plus a cheeseboard ( and vats of wine) if it is really late, or a big pot of stew/chilli, plus crusty bread ( and vats of wine) ready. It will all depend on whether they ate loads at M&S on the motorway, whether their trip was 1 hour or 6 hours, etc. In fact, I would have both ready for them just in case. Pizza is a bit imvho.

expatinscotland · 03/06/2008 21:27

i'd have a variety of drinks to hand to offer - whisky, sherry (which i hate), brandy, a red wine like claret or a burgundy.

and non-alcholic ones: hot chocolate, tea, herbal teas, coffee.

MuchLessTiredNow · 03/06/2008 21:31

defo soup or some lovely chilli or curry - anything that can be dipped into with bread or tortillas and eaten on laps.

SmugColditz · 03/06/2008 21:33

Bacon sandwiches, I second mamamamama

pointydog · 03/06/2008 21:37

yes, colditz, a bacon roll fgs. Who wants to be heating up pots of curry and chilli and unveiling cheeseboards and smorgasbords in teh middle of the night.

SmugColditz · 03/06/2008 21:38

I should not have read this thread.

SmugColditz · 03/06/2008 21:38

Or crumpets and hot chocolate is lovely and supperish.

Cappuccino · 03/06/2008 21:43

lol colditz yes it makes you hungry doesn't it

I am particularly craving the croissants and cheese, washed down with expat's unwanted sherry

Cappuccino · 03/06/2008 21:44

biscuitsmustbedunkedintea · 03/06/2008 23:57

Sorry but how has Fish Finger sarnies not been mentioned yet?

Posh - use Ciabatta, add lettuce and rustic Italian tomato sauce

Common - white bread, lots of vinegar, salt & pepper and lashing of Heinz ketchup

madamez · 04/06/2008 00:19
