Recommendations please for nice but cheap dark/milk chocolate

I like to make chocolate treats for the family, like home made candied citrus peel coated in dark chocolate, and chocolate bars made in silicone moulds with dried cherries, nuts, apricots etc. I usually use dark chocolate, or half dark/half milk. I was using Lidl Simply Dark/milk, but none there at all the last couple of times I have been there. I watched some videos on YouTube for taste testing and some even came up better than Cadbury's. Lidl Fin Carre was definitely not recommended and that's all they had in Lidl today.

Aldi

Aldi - Moser Roche

If you happen to be going to France, I really like the cheapest own brand from Super U supermarket!

AnotherVice · 30/09/2025 08:03

Definitely Aldi.

Another shout for Aldi!

I get the Tesco own brand baking chocolate and I think it’s excellent. Nicer than the more expensive brands.

I don't drive and don't know an Aldi I can get to. I need to know the brand names of the chocolate, and not just the supermarket names. Thank you for any help, much appreciated.

Coop own brand chocolate is usually nice.

M&S do a 70% Dark Chocolate "cooks ingredients" which is nice to eat on its own or in treats - it is only £1.25 for 100g

Lidl’s JD Gross dark chocolate is absolutely delicious. It’s a little more expensive than their other range but still relatively cheap and amazing value for what it is.

Another vote for Lidl JD Gross, I like bothe heir raspberry one and the 85%

Sainsbury’s standard cooking chocolate is great for eating or baking

I was going to suggest Aldi Moser Roth, but if you don't have a shop nearby it's not much use to you. Co-op chocolate is fairly reliable.
