Those you genuinely use often and don’t just sit on the shelves looking pretty.
At home with high temp, want to treat myself to a nice new recipe book (well, not new, likely from Vinted!).

Nigella Feast, Ottolenghi Simple and Sabrina Ghayour Persiana.

Most recipes in these books are not everyday cooking. I tend to only look at cookery books when we have guests for dinner.

Aspiringcook · 13/09/2025 15:16

Persiana is on my list actually, seems very highly rated

I’ve just got two favourites.
First, The Green Roasting Tin. Theres also a meat version I think - really simple, tasty recipes. Followed by One Pot, Pan, Planet.

Letshavetea1 · 13/09/2025 17:16

I agree with Persiana, it’s fab - but do reduce the salt!! All Nigella’s books, Rick Stein (particularly Mediterranean Escapes). Rachel Roddy - An A to Z of pasta. Gok cooks Chinese (all the recipes are amazing). Sophie Grigson sunshine food. These are my go to books, and I love cooking.

Letshavetea1 · 13/09/2025 17:17

Have to add that online Recipe Tin Eats are the best

SummerInSun · 13/09/2025 17:20

Jamie Oliver’s The Ministry of Food. An oldie, but a classic. And The Fast Diet cookbook. I have about 15 others on my shelves (and that’s after a big declutter a few years back) but rarely use them!

MassiveOvaryaction · 13/09/2025 17:20

Hairy Bikers everyday, Jon Watts speedy weeknight meals and Jamie's 15 minute meals are the current ones.
Persiana Easy is on my Christmas list.

MadameCholetsDirtySecret · 13/09/2025 17:38

Persiana and Persiana Everyday and anything by Ottolenghi (though Nopi is a little challenging).

OhDorWheresthesalad · 14/09/2025 08:14

I go through phases. Currently, Chinese Food made easy by Ching He-Huang, Jamie's 30 minute meals and Green Roasting Tin.

CelestialFilly · 14/09/2025 15:15

i love 'veg every day' by hugh fearnley w.
add meat as desired Grin

Meera Sodha - East — vegetarian cookbook with recipes inspired from across Asia. One of my most used books. It’s perfect for midweek cooking, balances interesting, healthy, quick enough and the food from it is great

Ixta Belfrage - Mezcla — so many knock out dishes from Mezcla. Less midweek friendly, but worth it

Sift - Nicola Lamb — a baking book so maybe not what you’re looking for but its gorgeous and interesting and everything I’ve baked from it has been wonderful

Aspiringcook · 15/09/2025 11:23

Thank you!

Pip Payne- the Slimming Foodie books. All fab.

JDM625 · 15/09/2025 11:46

I was recently given Ottolenghi's Simple for my birthday, so its still a bit of a honeymoon phase where I try to use it every week or 2.

I bought this for £1 from a boot sale years ago and still use it- Pat Chapman 250 favourite curries. Many of the curries use the same base, so once you've made that up, the powder keeps in a jar to use when needed. https://www.worldofbooks.com/en-gb/products/curry-club-250-favourite-curries-and-accompaniments-book-pat-chapman-9780749911850

Otherwise, I mainly google recipes. I love this ladies recipes and have never found a dud one: https://www.recipetineats.com/ She might have a book, but I just google.

Tend to stick to easy but great flavours, The Mumsnet Cookbook has had lots of use, also Nigella and Jamie Oliver 5 ingredients, I'm considering downloading all ofJon Allen's cookbooks as the recipes look delicious online!

Mrs Beeton - the big standard one that tells you how to cook anything.

Crumbelina · 15/09/2025 12:51

Ottolenghi Simple, Falastin and one of Nigella's (all are great!).

Blarn · 15/09/2025 13:05

The Secret of Cooking, Bee Wilson is a favourite for recipes and just reading through.

I use a lot of Nigella and Nigel Slater, especially his earlier ones which are great for easy dinners in the week. Rick Steins India and tours around Europe ones too.

Our local Sainsburys has an expanded Eastern Europe section and I've made a very good noodle soup with things I've picked up so next on my list is an Eastern Europe cook book.

Sourisblanche · 15/09/2025 13:05

I use the River Cottage ones and HFW family cooking and veg books the most.

Holidaze2025 · 15/09/2025 22:15

Diana Henry - From The Oven to The Table
Fuchsia Dunlop - Every Grain of Rice
Any of Rick Stein’s!

Aspiringcook · 17/09/2025 08:14

Thanks everyone, I have a lot to look into! Very inspired by Persiana and From the Oven to the Table so far!
