Do you do pudding every day? And what do you do?

We only ever had pudding when I was growing up on a Sunday after dinner, and it was either a crumble during winter or icecream and tinned fruit during the summer. So it's never occured to me to do puddings, when ds was little he got the savoury/sweet mix at dinners, then as he got bigger a yoghurt after dinner and dd was blw'd so to be honest most of the time we forget, or they have yoghurt with their lunch.

My friend does puddings every night though so it's got me wondering. She either does a sponge and custard, or jelly and icecream, or brownies and things... at the very least yoghurt but I think that's only when she has nothing else

What does anyone else do?

I might add time could be a factor. I do home cooked meals and to be honest don't know if I have time to do home cooked pudding. All my friends meals and puddings are of the tin and packet variety.

fruit or yoghurt

occasionally rice pudding

sometimes a crumble

No, never. DH might grab a piece of fruit. But I think it's a bad habit to get the family into, to expect something sweet after their meal. I rarely even order dessert at a restaurant.

Mine have pudding after lunch and tea and would feel mighty short changed if they didn't.

Always fruit and yogurt every day and I love to bake so anything really, cakes, biscuits, etc.

notnowbernard · 01/06/2008 19:03

Mine would also feel short-changed, NAB

Even if it is only an apple or some tinned peaches or something

NotABanana · 01/06/2008 19:03

Oh, mine would have fruit and then want another 2-3 things! They eat so well, I don't mind really.

my mum used to do a pudding every night when I was a child
I really loathe, or am indifferent to, almost all cooked puddings now
funny old life

notnowbernard · 01/06/2008 19:08

We nearly always had a crumble on a Sunday

I draw the line at Butterscotch Instant Whip though

Blu · 01/06/2008 19:08

We never ever have pudding unless it is a scoop of ice cream.

We just don't have time and DS isn't fussed. He might have something if we go out to eat, but as often as not will say he's full up and doesn't want dessert.

tassisssss · 01/06/2008 19:09

I would love to have pudding more often

Here it's fruit or yogurts for the LOs, sometimes homebaking

asicsgirl · 01/06/2008 19:14

generally fruit here, tho' when we have had puds/ cake ds1 is so thrilled i feel quite guilty for not doing it more often!

Tinkjon · 01/06/2008 23:03

Almost never have a 'traditional' pudding. Pudding in our house - sorry, I'm common, I have to say "afters" instead of "pudding" is always yoghurt or fruit. I like to make a proper pudding on Sundays but am struggling with weight at the moment and if I can't eat it then no s0d else is going to

slinkiemalinki · 01/06/2008 23:07

Daughter has fruit or yoghurt most nights. Same for us really. We would be fat if I made a cooked pudding every night. I tend to save it for restaurants or I make a pudding/dessert for a special occasion. Occasional blowout is OK!

cory · 02/06/2008 08:34

We only have 'afters' on special occasions, and maybe once a week if the main course is soup. Other than that, no. Mine know they're expected to fill up on the main course.

throckenholt · 02/06/2008 08:36

dh and the kids do - I don't as often.

Sometimes we cook something - eg crumble, more often it will be icecream, sometimes fruit (eg grape fruit).
