Slow cooker porridge

user2848502016 · 31/08/2025 12:34

Now that autumn is almost here I am thinking slow cooker porridge would be lovely on a cold morning.

Any good recipes?

Would I just add the same quantities to the slow cooker as I would for making porridge in a pan or does it need more liquid?
High, medium or low setting? (Morphy Richards slow cooker)

There was a thread on this topic about a month ago and some lovely ideas!

Are you cooking for one or for four.

if you are cooking for one, either invest in a 1.5 litre pot (Argos has one) or try cooking in a bowl inside your large slow cooker and cook overnight on low. A pot that’s too big will be like cooking on a tray, I think.

I use 1/3 cup of steel cut oats and some salt with a bit over a cup of water in a 1.5 litre slow cooker. Cook on high for over an hour but I never look at the clock to see. Rolled oats won’t take as long.

If cooking on low, I would get started before I went to bed.

Then I would give your current slow cooker a go with a view to downsizing if necessary.

No need for slow cooking. Soak the oats in a pan of water/milk overnight. In the morning give it a stir and warm through. The starch seeps out of the oats overnight and makes lovely creamy porridge even without milk.
