Soda stream?

I'm getting a soda stream and there are a lot of different kinds. If you have one which one do you have and what do you recommend? I think there's one where you can choose the level of fizziness which sounds good. Any recommendations?

I don't have a sodastream brand one, I have an aarke like this one. It works well and is better looking (imo) than the sodastream ones. A tip I got from here is keep some bottles of water in the fridge so the water is really cold before fizzing. Cold water takes the fizz better than warm. The sodastream 800ml bottles are better quality than the aarke ones. The Range is cheapest place to get the co2 refills where I live. They used to be £10 but have recently risen to £12.

Thanks will look into it. I'm not necessarily after a branded soda stream but don't know what else to call them.

We have the Terra quick connect one that takes the pink bottle of Co2. Mainly use it for fizzing water as I was buying 6 bottles a week of sparkling water and the plastic waste/cost was crazy.

Argos does the Co2 cannisters for £25 but if you hand in an empty one you can buy a new one for £15. You have to do this at a till.

With ours the more times you press the button the fizzier it is. 3-4 presses is usually enough.

We have a brewery supplier near us who does the large co2 canisters. My DH bought a conversion kit and it has saved us a fortune on buying the refill canisters.

I think that's the one I was looking at. How long does the gas last as £25 seems excessive?

About 6 weeks - a cannister will make 60l of water fizzy. Generally they come with one canister so you'll only ever pay £15 if you use Argos. There are some people that fill up the canisters on Ebay if you send them an empty one but I'd avoid those - you aren't allowed to send pressurised containers in the post and you have no cover if the item goes missing - ask me how I know...

We get our canisters in Sainsburys where they are £13 with a return. We've got the Sodastream Art, it is a bit plasticcy looking. Also, ours is black and we have hard water so it gets a lot of white marks from splashes, it also shows fingerprints as it is glossy. You adjust the fizziness by how many times you press the lever.

We have a soda stream. I couldn’t tell you which one, but yes, you can choose the level of fizziness and also ours is not one that needs to be plugged in (doesn’t run off electric).

We used to have the sort that ran on electricity, but it broke and couldn’t be easily fixed. The new one is entirely mechanical. You push a button and you make the CO2 come out, which I think is better as you can move it around without being attached to the wall and it’s one less component that can break. Ours gets daily use.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 26/08/2025 12:47

I've got a basic one, push a button for shorter or longer for less or more fizzy. Simple, effective. I make a bottle a day most days, a gas cannister lasts me a couple of months.

Thinking about getting one. Are they cheaper than buying coke in the shops?
