Heading to an M&S food hall today and I’ve heard lots about the low ingredient foods, like the bread. Any suggestions of other foods I should buy?

We buy the low ingredient Cheerios and the toasting loaf. Their washing detergent (sandalwood and bergamot) is nice too. They also do good butter - I like the M&S jersey butter.

Mrsmunchofmunchington · 23/08/2025 07:18

Chocolate covered custard creams.
Life changingly good biscuits!

Peonyperfection · 23/08/2025 07:19

@chocopuffsi hadn’t thought of laundry detergent, thanks. Added to list.

@Mrsmunchofmunchington sounds like my husbands idea of heaven, but I wasn’t keen on the old custard creams. I’ll see if I can spot them.

I always buy my (uncooked) chicken there, because I think it tastes better than Aldi/Tesco. However i saw a tiktok yesterday which said ALL the chicken comes from the same place and Aldi/Tesco is cheaper.......goodness knows, now 🤷

I was going to say the fresh whole chickens too. They might come from the same place as Aldi/Tesco but that doesn't mean they are the same breed or reared in the same way.

EachandEveryone · 23/08/2025 07:25

The full chicken meal deal

Mumofyellows · 23/08/2025 07:27

I find their fruit and veg is so much better than other supermarkets.

I don't know how true this but maybe things have changed. I know someone who has a poultry farm (randomly) and they didn't/wouldn't sell to M&S because their standards and regulations were so difficult to meet. He said it wasn't worth the hassle and grief, though I found that slightly comforting. But like I say, that was a couple of years ago so maybe they've changed.

PersephoneParlormaid · 23/08/2025 07:34

i like the fresh chicken/mushroom/rice soup with crusty buns from the bakery. The pistachio biscuits in the green packet are lovely too.
Their packaged watermelon is the nicest I’ve found, and I always get their easy peelers.

WhereAreWeNow · 23/08/2025 07:34

Bread, fruit and veg, own brand cleaning products, the very chocolatey ginger biscuits.

BadActingParsley · 23/08/2025 09:05

The Cornish cruncher cheddar cheese. And their chicken is sourced differently to higher standards. The fruit is better and the avocados are lovely.

Pasadenadreaming · 23/08/2025 09:13

Cornish cruncher cheese, mojito grapes, and their raspberries!

Peonyperfection · 23/08/2025 16:01

Thanks all, I’m really looking at ingredients at the minute and trying to limit UPFs, but it’s a balance isn’t it. I rarely go to M&S so I thought it would be a chance to look at some new options whilst I was nearby. I found some bread rolls with minimal ingredients, some red and green pestos made with olive oil and a lovely loaf. I picked up the stain removal wipes that I’ve seen all over and some delicious satsumas. I’ve also got some pudding rice, planning for the cosy autumn evenings. The takeout lunch options really seem to be reduced in my M&S at the minute, it used to be full of sandwich type options but I got some sushi type chicken. I won’t go for another month or so but lll keep all suggestions.

Lowering the tone somewhat but my immediate answer was their Limoncello Spritz Cans

Failing that their fruit -strawberries, raspberries and avocados especially

DiscoBob · 23/08/2025 16:57

Pistachio and almond cookies
Hazelnut cookies
Almond thins
Buttery sultana biscuits
Hazelnut creme
Pistachio creme

Yeah I love nuts!

The posh prawn sandwich is nice.

The things I miss are the amazing Margherita pizza from the chiller section in the early 90s. It tasted better than a restaurant one!

And these chocolate bars called Tresella, they had hazelnut creme and whole hazelnuts in. I wish they still existed! Those and the pasta crisps. I think it used to be better about 20 years ago.

Silverbirchleaf · 23/08/2025 16:59

M and S ‘Our best ever beef lasagne’

M and S ‘Chocolate Swiss roll’ - fresh

And in the spirit of @BeaLola:
M and S ‘Elderflower and mint Hugo spritz’ cans

Peonyperfection · 25/08/2025 06:11

I’m going to need to go more often!

I actually like m&s for basics - chicken breasts, salmon fillets (freezer), eggs, fruit n veg. The quality is good and the prices are surprisingly good, it's only the processed stuff which is pricey.

incognitomouse · 25/08/2025 14:02

I find that too @Chewbecca Ready meals etc are bonkers but everything else, raw ingredients etc perfectly fine.

lilaclemon · 25/08/2025 14:12

Delhi Butter Chicken is gorgeous

Bonjamin · 25/08/2025 14:19

Slight derail but have M&S discontinued the tuna fishcakes? They were my go-to easy supper with a salad, and so much nicer than the other fishcake options.

Fans of the chocolate covered custard creams/bourbons might like to know that they're also available in Home Bargains under the own brand label of Elke's, the bakery that produces them for M&S, for a bit less...

Sorry, OP, that's the opposite of 'low ingredient'.

Whatareyoutalkingaboutnow · 25/08/2025 14:22

Superfood salad pots (addicted to those)
Roasted mushroom pate
Strawberry tarts
Custard tarts
Lemon tart
Agree, the laundry liquid is good.

Well if you saw it on tiktok then it must be true 😂🙄
M&S have specific farms who rear for them only, and as for manufactured foods they specify their items are not produced with other supermarkets products. I know this because my families business does work in their factories and the standards we haveto adhere to are completely different compared to other companies.

BeaLola · 29/08/2025 20:45

Silverbirchleaf based on your recommendation I tried the Hugo - it's rather nice for a change, thank you Flowers

Derailing thread apologies but both Limoncello Spritz and Hugo Spritz are new in Wetherspoons (£4:49 or £4:99 depending on location ) - I may have tried them ....
