How to use pistachio creme/walnut creme/nut butters in a low carb way?

I have tons of these little jars in the cupboard that I pick up in Aldi or Lidl, fancy cremes, ie pastes/spreads of nutty loveliness

But I dont eat bread (well Im not meant to), crackers or any carby type carrier for things like this

I dont want to bake them int something for the same reason, although Im sure other people would love it!

I want to be able to eat them but unlike other fancy jars of things that I can use in a savoury dip or spread over salads and veg, I cant do that with these (I also have tons of things like artichoke paste/pestos of various flavours/olive tapanades - Im a sucker for fancy jars)

Ive just been out eating a spoon of a bit of jam and a bit of peanut butter, but I cant in all seriousness stand and eat my fancy cremes just off a spoon.

What can I put them on. Please dont say rice crackers!

I dont/cant eat potatoes that easily, I can manage a bit of rice now and then but not that easily as I had thought of making a lovely rice pudding and putting the pistachio creme in it, that would be gorgeous.

I currently have pistachio x 2, walnut x 2, hazlenut, chocolate hazelnut, tahini, honey tahini, peanut butter, almond butter, cashew butter. One of the pistachio jars has been opened and a spoon has made its way in there.

I have just finished a jar of pistachio cream spread from Costco, took me 4 days! I don't like spreading it on bread or crackers so the spoon goes in and that's that, same with nutella/chocolate spreads. I dont buy them often but when I do they never last long.
If you enjoy them straight from the jar then I say carry on, I'm sure we are not alone.

I just had an idea that perhaps I could add it to my porridge if I started eating that again, I can tolerate oats sort of ok. But in the summer I dont tend to eat porridge for breakfast.

Warm them slightly and add to yogurt or over fruit like bananas or strawberries. Or as I would just eat with a spoon!!!

Mummyslittlegiraffe · 14/08/2025 20:48

Apple or pear slices?

soupyspoon · 14/08/2025 20:50

Oh I just asked AI and it told me that there is no shame in eating it from the spoon!!!

It also suggested things like apple slices, I didnt think of that.

Stuffing it into dates, bit sweet perhaps
Dolloped over cottage cheese, this might be interesting.
Or certainly over ricotta, love that idea.
With celery, not sure on that one
In porridge, so copying my original idea!
Melting over fruit

Very nice

I think Im going to start with apple, I forgot about apples. The nmoving on to ricotta I will get some at the weekend

Make pancakes with oats rather than flour? Or with buckwheat if that suits you. Then drizzle the spreads over whilst still warm and add fruit of your choosing.

humblebea · 14/08/2025 21:17

In affogato?

iidentifyasapapaya · 15/08/2025 18:41

Ice cream? Yogurt? Fruit?

or that internet date trend - squish dates very thin, cover with your tiny jar, cover with melted dark chocolate, sprinkle with sea salt, fridge to set

Clockface222 · 15/08/2025 18:46

I always pair mine with apple. Crunchy almond butter is especially yummy with a sharp apple and tastes like dessert.

There’s loads of recipes going round for snickers inspired low carb treats where you stuff a date with some kind of whole nut, a bit of nut butter then dunk it in melted dark chocolate that’s had a bit of coconut oil stirred into it, then freeze till it sets. Obviously wouldn’t taste just like a snickers but apparently enough like one to be nice.

EBearhug · 15/08/2025 19:01

Peanut butter on apple slices - I imagine other nut butters would work as well. Or dip in celery or other crudités.

I also use peanut butter in savoury dishes as the base of a sauce in a stir fry etc. Tahini can be used in homemade houmous.

DiscoBob · 15/08/2025 19:05

Pistachio creme is full of sugar. The only ones you can use are the plain ones with just nuts in.

You can make cookies with them using egg and sweetener I think?

NegroniMacaroni · 15/08/2025 19:31

It's a bit outside the box but you can make brownies / blondies with white beans and nut butter!

ooohsopink · 15/08/2025 21:32

Put tbsps of the creme/butter on a baking sheet. Top with a slice of a fruit or berry that works with the creme flavour e.g banana on peanut, strawberry on pistachio, pear on walnut etc. Freeze until hard. Melt dark choc and dip each frozen disk in to cover. Back in freezer until choc is hard. Tip them all into a freezer bag and use them as a snack.

Stuffed dates are delicious 😋 I love a bit butter and have recently got into the habit of making up a batch smoothie bowls or acai bowls and leaving them in the fridge. Take one out in a morning, add some fruit, a dollop of nut butter, some nuts / seeds / granola and a big spoon full of greek yoghurt - perfect breakfast

SirChenjins · 15/08/2025 22:19

Dates stuffed with crunchy almond butter are delicious - and because they're sweet you only need 1 (or possibly 2...) to hit the spot.

sesquipedalian · 15/08/2025 22:23

Nut butters make good salad dressing - there is a Waitrose recipe here - https://www.waitrose.com/ecom/recipe/carrot-peanut-butter-salad
I made it with cashews and almond butter (it was what I happened to have). It was good!

Cerialkiller · 15/08/2025 22:28

Whip or swirl with cream cheese. Add 50/50 whipped cream if you want with a little sugar or sweetener to taste. Chill for a few hours to get cheese cake.

I use nut butter melted with chocolate and then use that mix to make cereal crispies. Rice pops, corn flakes, bran flakes, whatever you can tolerate.

Make keto granola, lots of mixed nuts, chopped, flaked etc with a nut butter to bind them, toast in the oven (careful it burns fast) then cool and store in a jar.

Make truffles by freezing balls of your creams then dipping in chocolate or rolling in cocoa.

minipie · 15/08/2025 22:34

Almond and cashew butters can go in curries if they aren’t sweetened. Peanut butter is in various savoury recipes too, I have a very good BBQ marinade I make with soy sauce, sugar, peanut butter, lime juice and spices.

PistachioTiramisuLimoncello · 15/08/2025 23:36

Omg yum!

PistachioTiramisuLimoncello · 15/08/2025 23:38

You can mix the nut butters into plain greek yog and freeze big blobs. Once they are hard dip in melted plain choc, sprinkle with nuts or salt flakes then freeze again for the yummiest treats!

Oh some people add honey or maple syrup to the middle too.

I use nut butters in porridge and in overnight oats. So good.

EDIT - Wtf, last response is from last August 😂 Why did it just pop up in my feed?
