Tortilla press

Anyone got one? If so do you like it and use it regularly? We eat so many wraps I thought I’d start making them and I’ve been rolling them by hand which is easy and I can do one while the previous one cooks but they’re not exactly round and if I’m going to do them a lot and possibly freeze them I was considering a press.

I have a press but don’t use it regularly, I often forget I have it. It is also really heavy.

I use mine to make homemade tacos, for the ceremony of it. Usually for dinner parties. It’s very heavy

i absolutely wouldn’t buy one to replace the supermarket item of ‘wraps’. Absolute faff. It’s a cheap item, that freezes easily- not like a loaf of sourdough that an artisan bakery would charge you £6 for.

you can get so many nice low UPF options and corn mix tortillas now in supermarkets, or can order online from a Mexican speciality store.

Why not roll them out and then use a salad plate, bowl or saucer to cut around? It would take seconds, they'd all be perfectly round and you wouldn't have the cost of a sizeable lump of metal to heft out the cupboard each time.

I bought mine from sous chef. It’s not heavy - possibly made from aluminium? Really easy to use. I use it to make corn tortillas.

They're not bad for corn tortillas but wheat tends to spring back to small again after you open the press I experimented with various blends but I didn't find the press gave the results I wanted so I don't bother any more. I have got quite good at rolling them and they do taste so much better than bought.

Thanks for the ideas and advice. I’ll think on.

I got one from temu(I know). Im coeliac so only have corn tortillas. It's a faff but got the knack now . Use masa de harina, hot water to make the grains burst. Cling film over each plate. Time consuming and they are tiny, but i like them. If I wasn't coeliac probably wouldn't bother

A tortilla press is mostly for corn tortillas. Flour tortillas are best rolled by hand or a rolling pin.

I use a rolling pin and don’t worry if it isn’t completely circular.
I make up a batch and freeze
some.

Would it go through a pasta machine? They aren’t very wide though so possibly not suitable!
