Yes, I would use it and have done, had a tub for ages until I used it up. I think Ive read that any seed or nut oil can go rancid so this would apply to sesame seeds but Ive never found that in tahini

Just made humus using mine that was opened in the fridge for nearly a year Blush and it's been fine

I dont even keep mine in the fridge, I keep it in the cupboard.

You could also use it in sauces or cakes.

Haha, I'm pretty sure tahini is one of those things that would survive the apocolypse. I dont' keep mine in the friend and it wouldn't cross my mind to toss it.

I have found that higher quality ones last longer without drying out/going hard though.

What is it that makes hummus go off to quickly then? It's usually eat within 48 hours... The chickpeas? Genuine question.

Mulledjuice · 30/07/2025 10:32

Maybe do a taste test!
But my first thought when I read your post was "never?"

A little boiling water will loosen it up if necessary

Lemon juice and garlic I think in our case. And it doesn't go off in 3 days - it can definitely last longer! Homemade gets a bit strong on the garlic after af ew days though!!

Chickpeas ferment very easily.
