Can anyone recommend a good set - mine are so old and some of the lids dont sit well! Are they all the same?

No, they're not all the same.

Le Creuset are excellent, but not cheap. However I think they have a lifetime guarantee.

Themagicfarawaytreeismyfav · 16/07/2025 15:44

i just got the tefal ingenio ones, they are great and not massively expensive.

Beyondburnout · 16/07/2025 15:47

I like stainless steel. Stella or ikea 365 days have worn welll. Still searching for holy grail of frying pan.

oncemoreuntothebeachdearfriends · 16/07/2025 17:12

I've got Prestige Lifetime,at least 30 years old and as good as new.
Also Le Creuset, but rarely used now as they are very heavy when you've got arthritis.

AbsoluteBeginner1 · 16/07/2025 22:53

j quite like the granite looking ones, are they any good? I have le creuset casserole dishes but I need a set of 3 everyday pans for curries etc.

There's a zillion sets out there , some good, some brilliant, but every pan bought needs to be worth its weight and be easy to use

No point buying Le Creuset if you cant lift them

When I moved to this house and it was an induction hob, I rushed out and bought cheap Ikea 365. My saute pan, you will need to wrestle from my cold dead hands. Its the bomb , its the best stainless steel "frying" pan I have ever had

I did upgrade my saucepans to Stellar double based ones, they are really good. Good weight, good sixes ( for my family )

And I use a teafal frying pan for eggs

Pans are really a personal choice.

But you need to start looking as from what you want to use them for. I dont have a bunch of saucepans because I now rarely hob cook

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 16/07/2025 23:10

Stainless steel stellar 1000, for ne.

CoastalCalm · 16/07/2025 23:17

Le creuset do stainless steel , many sets on sale at the moment which is when I bought mine from Harrods no less ( I still have the cardboard box ) they are fantastic - dishwasher makes them sparkle and mine are about 4 year old and immaculate despite being used daily for all sorts

isitmytime · 16/07/2025 23:22

I have scoville ones that I got from Asda and they’re brilliant. I have a 4 piece pan set and a larger caserole pan they were pretty cheap about £80 for them all but they’re better than my previous ones that cost triple the price

MistyMountainTop · 16/07/2025 23:24

We have the Ikea 365, they've been excellent.

TheSandgroper · 17/07/2025 05:43

Aluminium - cheap, thin, heats and cools quickly. May dent easily.

Stainless steel - more sturdy, heats evenly but a bit more slowly than aluminium. Cleans up well.

Stainless steel copper in the base - as above but the copper heats evenly and smoothly.

Le Creuset etc - cast iron with enamel. Very heavy. Sturdy. Enamel is good for cleaning but will chip. Heat slowly first as the enamel and the iron heat at different temperatures. (Heat too quickly and the enamel will bubble). Retains heat/cools slowly.

Cast iron - Heavy. heats slowly and cools slowly. Needs proper seasoning first but after that care is easy. Can be used in an open fire/campfire.

AbsoluteBeginner1 · 17/07/2025 06:51

So for me, id need to just make curries, then also boil veg, make lentils. I have the round casserole le creuset but I tend to use that for special meals rather than every day use. Lots of votes here for ikea interestingly!

Start by using your LC more often and become more comfortable with it. Lots of people just keep their LC on the stove as they use it all the time and it’s too heavy to be carting around.

Ninja.

BadActingParsley · 17/07/2025 07:20

IKEA 365 are excellent, well they were 15 years ago when I bought mine and still going strong.

LindorDoubleChoc · 17/07/2025 07:25

I have a set of copper bottomed stainless steel pans from Prestige which were a wedding gift 31 years ago. They are still pretty much perfect, even the handles and pan lid knobs.

ProfessionalOverthinker1 · 17/07/2025 07:27

Any stainless steel, don't bother with coated ones as coating will come off and you basically eat it without knowing.

If you feeling spendy and want something that will last for ever go for La Creuset, JL is selling them in sets.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 17/07/2025 08:49

Le Creuset also do stainless steel pans, which are excellent, but very pricey.

The Ninja "Neverstick" range is very good non-stick. I have a frying pan and a small pan I use for porridge and milk sauces. I prefer stainless steel most of the time; my favourite pan is a Stellar pan which was DM's, but not compatible with her new induction hob.

I bought a set of Tala stainless steel pans recently. They are quite thin, but fine, although the handles get very hot.

merrymelody · 17/07/2025 09:09

I still have an IKEA saucepan that I bought in my student days (mid-80s) and it’s still in good nick.

I had a set of those for years - adored them. cooked so evenly

Passed them on to a student going into accommodation because I had bought an induction hob - that was 15 years ago, she's married now and still using them. Best pans I ever had

The 365 are very good to be fair for a very good price. As I say my saute pan which is 15 years old is used once or twice a week and still looks like Ive lifted it off the shelf and as I hang my pans, I like to see them sparkle

( actually I obsessive about my pans and tins, you can use my granny's roasting tins ( 60 years old now ) as mirrors. No one but me is allowed to wash them )

Mindyourfunkybusiness · 17/07/2025 23:17

Le cru stainless or Stellar. Both are good pots. Stellar were my first set - like new still after around 15 years or more. Le creuset stainless pots - three years now and I prefer the handle but my Stellar pots were old old full handle and heavy. I know they have newer handles. Best pots hands down invest for life if you can.

storminabuttercup · 18/07/2025 13:13

Mine are stainless steel from pro cook, had them 12 years, one lid handle and one pan handle came loose about 3 years ago and I enquired about buying replacements as they were sold as a set
was sent a new pan and lid for free the next day
they still look like new

jaundicedoutlook · 18/07/2025 13:16

We have quite a mixed set, including plain stainless steel, Staub, and Woll.

I really like the Woll pans for everyday use.

Edited

My mum's stainless steel ones are over 60 years old and still as good as new.
