Help me improve savoury flapjacks?

FlappedJack · 08/07/2025 16:34

I made these earlier https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/seeded-cheese-chive-flapjacks

The texture is great, but the flavour just a bit underwhelming. Ideas so far -
Could add sun-dried tomatoes.
Could sub some of the cheddar for parmesan, but this could affect texture due to reduced fat content.

Any other ideas for savoury additions which pack a punch flavour wise?

Who says flapjacks should always be sweet? Rustle up a batch of these cheese and chive savoury flapjacks – they're ideal for picnics or as a snack to curb hunger

Marmite or miso paste to enhance the savouriness without increasing the saltiness.

Oh I used to make savoury flapjacks for my kiddos when they were little (wouldn't touch them with a bargepole now). It was grated carrot, grated courgette, oats and strong strong cheddar cheese. Mmm. Dried mixed herbs?

Looking at the reviews most people have had to increase the cheese to get them to work, and the recipe has no seasoning at all.

Try salt / pepper / paprika / chilli flakes / dried oregano?

Thank you! It does have seasoning (in instructions rather than ingredients) and I would say it is salty enough. A good idea to just add extra cheese though- I'll keep the cheddar as is but just add parmesan too.
If that doesn't work I'll try Marmite!

@sugarplum33 I actually looked at that one too, but it was nearly identical to the BBC one but with less cheese. I chose cheese!

To be fair I firmly believe that there is no such thing as too much cheese and don’t tend to measure it into recipes so mine were probably very cheesy :)
