Natural food colourings

Hi - new to posting, so apologies if this has already been discussed (if so please point me in the right direction).

I'm wondering if anyone could give me some pointers on where to buy natural food colourants for icing cakes etc?

I know about cochineal and have seen the 'overseal' website, but wondered if there was anything else I haven't been canny enough to find?

Many thanks!

I just make white or brown cakes.

A bit of plum or cherry juice makes nice pink icing.

You can make green with spinach water, but you will be convinced you can still taste spinach.

cook up a bit of grated beetroot in a bit of water. Let cool. Add a few drops of the now deep red water to icing for pink icing. No side tastes!

Thank you both for the tips - think I'll definitely give the spinach a miss! Was worried making the colours would be onerous, but the tips really help. Good job I'm making it for a girl though!

Hi. When dd turned 3 she wanted a purple cake. My kitchen looked like a lab for weeks beforehand, as I tried everything! In the end, I found a bit of blueberry spread added to butter icing did the trick, but it did make the icing runny. Was chasing La Fruit dried fruit 'sweets' all over the cake!

Tumeric makes good yellow icing, but pale yellow is best or your cake tastes curried! I can confirm that spinach powder makes fondant icing taste of spinach. I coloured the Christmas trees on my Christmas cake with this. DD and DS wolfed them down but dh and I were virtually gagging. Funny really, as we'll both eat spinach but the kids won't.

Assuming nuts aren't a problem, you could add yellow detail with marzipan. I'm also wondering if custard powder would work... (Usually coloured with annatto, which is a natural food colouring but used to hype-up my dd something awful.)
