How to soften flapjacks

Erhmmm yes I know it's a silly question....but hear me out....
I baked flapjacks for the very first time in my life. All good and looked easy and pretty...However....they are SO crunchy!! The recipe said 20-25 minutes in the oven and I took them out after 18. They looked great, not burned at all. And when I had to cut them up.... oh gosh, so hard!
They taste delicious and I will probably bake them for 15 minutes next time, or use a smaller pan (I used one at the exact size it was recommended). But for now, how can I make them softer?
If I leave them outside a tin, will they absorb some humidity from the air, or will they get even crunchier?

SoupDragon's condensed milk flapjacks are what you need. Recipe is on this site somewhere, if you use Advanced Search. The original specifies sugar as well as condensed milk and golden syrup, but you don't need any sugar. Marvellous flavour and texture.

Seconding Soupdragon's recipe! It has a huge fan base round my way.

My tip: make double. It calls for 1/2 tin of condensed milk, which is impossible to handle. Make double, splitting the mixture in half and adding raisins, nuts, crystallised ginger or whatever to one batch if you want. I top them with melted chocolate. They always get eaten.

Microwave them for 30 seconds before eating them?

Soupdragon's Flapjacks - double batch

700g porridge oats
300g butter
4 tablespoons golden syrup
1 tin condensed milk
200g demerara sugar

2 baking tins 18 x 28cm (or square equivalents)

Oven 160 C
Line tins
Melt butter, add syrup & sugar, mix, do not boil
Add condensed milk and heat, stirring (Soupdragon's recipe says boil for 1 min, I always used to burn it on the base of the saucepan, so I just heat and beat until it's all come together)
Stir into oats
Split between tins
Bake 15 mins, removing when edges browning
Allow to cool and cut into 16 squares

Twists:
add fruit, nuts, ginger, whatever to a batch
Top with melted chocolate after cooking

I make these at least once a month!

Bung them in the microwave for thirty secs and they’ll soften up.
