I don't have mine down on a spreadsheet or anything, I just write it in a book for 2 weeks at a time

McDreamy · 18/05/2008 19:24

You see that is soooooo much more organised than me

How you doing?

Ok - here's a quick list of my standard dishes, then I make sure each month I look in the books and find something new to add in. Looks a bit boring once written down..but these ar emainly the ones that we can all eat, dh and I occasionally have more 'adult'food or things ds1 can't eat (Allergies ++) anyway here goes anyway.
Spag bol (with sneaky veg in - make double batch and use for lasagne later in week)
Kedgeree
Meatball pasta
Lasagne
Fish Pie
Homemade cornish pasties with homemade pot wedges (Tana Ramsay)
Chorizo stew (Nigel Slater)
Moussaka (Dinner Lady)
Tuna pasta bake
salmon fillets with veg (thai salmon stew with pots for us)
Lamb stew (Good food recipe with lamb layered with fried onions and thyme, sliced pots, apricots)
Korma and rice
Tortilla wraps filled with meats, lettuce, cheese then dry fried in pan (Nigella)
Homemade chicken nuggets with pot wedges, mini corn cobs and hummous dip (Diner ladies)
Spanish chicken casserole (chicken thighs, tinned toms, peppers, onion, mushrooms and optional olives)
Steak and cannelli bean mash with veg
Kids pasta - cooked pasta in bowl then little bowls of things they can add in themselves - broccoli, cheese, ham, sweetcorn.
Cottage pie
Chilli con carne
Marinaded drumsticks and thighs, corn on teh cob and pot wedges- ds's love to be mini cavemen with these.

Mind gone blank now, will add more if I remember /drag my arse downstairs for my list.
Tana Ramsay's Family kitchen book has been a godsend - really revitalised our monthly menu. Has a gorgeous prawn gratin that I do just for me and dh. Banana cake is lovely as are the cranberry and oat cookies.
HTHs
Am waiting for my list to be attacked in the usual MN fashion by someone, but hey, it works for us.

i do mine on a weekly basis - LO 6 months so mainly milk for her.

Over the last two weeks we had:
Caesar salad
Spag bol
fish in mushroom sauce with rice
stir fry
chicken satay
spanish omlette
tuna pasta bake
fish and chips
sausage and mash

Hope that helps

2-week rotation to correspond with Asda online order. Have similar things on each day e.g. Thursday is pasta day so it's easy to remember/improvise

Week 1/Week 2

Monday----Stir Fry / Chicken curry
Tuesday----Pie 'n mash / Sausage 'n' mash
Wednesday----Chops&roasted veg/ vegetarian dish
Thursday----Spag bol/ Macaroni cheese
Friday-Fish Cakes and fish fingers/ Kedgeree-type risotto
Saturday---Home made pizza/ spanish omelette
Sunday-----Big beef stew/ Chicken casserole

Every few months we get bored and re-write script a bit. The time and food saved by planning far outweighs the repetetive menu though

Oh and thank you smoggie, will dust off Tana Ramsay now and look for inspiration

I meal plan only a week in advance. Have a general scheme, something like:

Sunday - almost always roast dinner
then:
1 chicken meal (using up leftovers if we had chicken on Sunday otherwise something with chicken thighs - tandoori chicken/cooked in tomato sauce/roasted with pots and veg in one dish)
1 mince meal (chilli/spag bol/meatballs/burgers/meat loaf/lasagne)
1 pasta meal (if not had with the mince - eg tuna pasta bake/tagliatelle & bacon/peas/cream sauce/ tortellini etc)
1 fish meal (e.g fish pie; salmon with new pots and veg; breaded fish & chips)
1 stew or curry
1 storecupboard/freezer/leftovers meal (e.g. pizza/rissotto/pie chucking in whatever I've got)
Takeaway or eat out once or twice a month, more often if really busy.
