moondog · 17/05/2008 21:48

This looks pretty genuine

PussinJimmyChoos · 17/05/2008 21:48

Oooh! I get the Good Food Magazine and they had a South African section in there not so long ago. Google Good food and it takes you to the BBC website and you can do a search of food by country etc - should be on there.

It looked delish btw!

moondog · 17/05/2008 21:51

Thanks girls.
(Never knew MN had a recipe site!)

WHAT YOU diddn't know???? FFS I bleat on about it all the bloody time. I just thought you diddn't like it. Could you please upload some of your recipes please? I would love the lentil and feta one for eg.

latest on ds is that he has a "working diagnosis" of HFA, which will probably end up being a diagnosis of AS, according to the consultant

his teacher has just referred him (with my consent) to the county autism team as well so they can do an assessment concurrently with the ed psych who will be observing him soon

and the school want me to apply for a statement

we're still a bit dazed by it all tbh, but we're pacing ourselves and Not Overreacting iykwim

in practical terms he is bloody hard work (but aren't all kids?) but his teacher has made more changes/effort than I would have believed possible, and he is now enjoying school and they are finding him just about manageable, although still a little box of fireworks. He is going up to year 1 for literacy/numeracy/technology, which has calmed him down a bit.

he is impish and complicated and worrying and fucking adorable

sorry, I ramble when people ask me about ds1

how are you? and where are you? Wales or Turkey? I seem to have not co-posted with you in ages

moondog · 17/05/2008 21:56

lol
I don't really cook faves from recipes though. For you though....

Cooked brown lentils (cold)
Fetta
Fresh thyme
Vinaigrette (home made-olive oil,vinegar,garlic)

Toss lentils in dressing, crumble cheese over and scatter thyme, fold in gently and serve.
Voila!

and rofl at you now knowing MN had a recipe section, that's just disgraceful

moondog · 17/05/2008 22:00

GS, go for a statement. It is the only way to safeguard his needs and rights. You need to apply yourselves as if school do it,they will probably be turned down (huge move to do away with statements as they are legally binding docs. which educational authorities deon't like as they get forced to act on them)

You need to contact your local Special Needs Advisory Project/Parent Partnership who will talk through the process with you. DO IT NOW.It is essential you understand it all.

This is my specialist field as a salt (and as a parnet of a child with comm. difficulties). Let me know if you need any help/guidance.

I am involved with a lot of people with HFASD and Aspergers, and plenty manage just fine.

But could you input it to the section here with average quantities ect. I know you don't need to use a recipe but for the mere mortals who can't cook regular mners who want to try it, it would be fab to have it on there. and any others you would care to share for that matter.

moondog · 17/05/2008 22:01

I am in Wales now but shortly off to Bangladesh where dh now working.
Trip to CARIBBEAN FIRST TO SEE SISTER AND FAMILY.

Ok, will do.

Greensleeves · 17/05/2008 22:05

thanks for that advice moondog, I will act on it - and will tap you for more guidance as and when we need it

During all the meetings and having to fight his corner ans 'ask for things' etc I was really conscious of MN backing me up and shoring up my knowledge and my presumption of entitlement etc, is that sad? Probably

Sometimes I look at ds1 though and all the gorgeous little quirks, his body language and his turn of phrase and his bloody-mindedness and his fricking obsessions and taking everything literally....they are HIM, there would be nothing left of him if he didn't have ASD - so we love ASD

sorry, I have hijacked your poncy food thread! I blame the wine (New Zealand, very crisp and fatally more-ish)

wtf is a bobotie?

Greensleeves · 17/05/2008 22:05

caribbean followed by bangladesh, you lucky bugger!

Carmenere · 17/05/2008 22:07

Brill, thanks and wow to Banghladesh
and to Caribbean for that matter, does your sister live in Tobago?

moondog · 17/05/2008 22:09

Check out links Grenny (and yes ,so know what you mean about it being part of him. When I started work 12 years ago, I worked with one young man with AS and he was unique it seemed. Now 'Aspies' all over the place and delightful it is too!)

Sister lives in Martinique, island next door to St Lucia.
