Would you cook 2 day out of date mince? Thanks

I find mince goes off really quick when out of date. I would look and smell it and judge it from there

Goldenboysmum · 23/04/2025 17:12

No I wouldn't.

Id eat a lot of out of date foods, but not meat unless I'd frozen it

SchnizelVonKrumm · 23/04/2025 17:13

I would if it smelt ok. I'd expect it will be fine.

oncemoreuntothebeachdearfriends · 23/04/2025 17:21

I'd probably use beef, but not pork, lamb or chicken.
Best way is to smell it.

AcquadiP · 23/04/2025 17:24

No.

LiesDoNotBecomeUs · 23/04/2025 17:25

I'd sniff the beef mince and if it passes that test, I'd cook it thoroughly.
Off-meat smells wrong.

(I would not trust my nose this way when suffering from covid - however mild- as it does mess with the detection system!)

butternutsquashed · 23/04/2025 17:37

If it was chunks of beef or a slab I would if it smelt ok. Stuff like sausages, burgers or anything made of bits is more high risk.

Arlanymor · 23/04/2025 17:38

Another one who uses the sniff test here. There can be so many variables when it comes to dates on meat - how it was stored, temperature of your fridge, etc.

Cheerfulcharlie · 23/04/2025 17:39

Definitely not - especially not beef or pork mince.

Sunshine6195102 · 23/04/2025 17:40

Thanks all. It smells and looks ok so I have decided to cook it and very thoroughly. Wish me luck 😂

Yes. Because I tend to think supermarkets err on the side of caution with use by dates. I also grew up with a mother with incredibly lax attitudes to food dates who is still going strong in her 80s without issues. I have adopted a slightly less lax approach, but it has seen me through to my mid 50s without incident so far. Look and smell and far more important than the date.

DreamyRedNewt · 23/04/2025 17:42

No way. As other people, I would also eat other foods out of date, but not fish of meat. I don't even want it on their limit date. I normally buy meat or fish to cook on the same day or the next, and look that it has a few days left. Meat and fish should be as fresh as possible. Chicken sometimes starts to smell even when it is on date.

Thanks all. Just to confirm I cooked it and was totally fine afterwards 😊.
