When did you phase out morning+evening milk?

DD is 21 months and eats really well. She still ha a bottle of cows milk morning and evening. I hve noticed recently that she seems to be leaving more in these (she used to wolf the lot).

I'm not keen to drop the evening bottle just now as it's part of the routine- but is it a reasonable age to phase out the morning one in favour of an earlier breakfast? She ha plenty of milk, cheese, youghurt at other times.

Thanks.

We have never given ds milk in the mornings as I know he would never eat his breakfast if we did! Would drop that one for sure. She'll be fine.

I still give DS (2.5) milk morning and evening but tbh he really only has a small cup in the morning and larger one in the evening. He doesn;t really have emough dairy so I'm thinking of adding a small cup of milk during the day too.

Provided she has the calcium equivalent of 1pt of milk a day there nothing which says what form it has to be in and when.

DS nearly 2 has milk in the morning and the evenings

The mornign one is his equivalent of my morning cuppa - we can't start the day without it

i guess he will drop it when he is ready

he doesn't eat much dairy so i think it is still a necessity for him

Is the recommended amount 1 pint a day then?

Sorry to hijack!

Kewcumber · 12/05/2008 15:54

govt advice is 3/5 of pint I think but I have always seen 1pt elsewhere. Will google it...

fiodyl · 12/05/2008 16:03

i think it is only 1 pint up to a year old, and les after that, but i dont take much notice of those things

mine have milk whever they ask for it- usually morning, sometimes during the day and nearly always at bedtime

When I forgot to give it to ds and he didn't complain...

Helps to be absent-minded in this parenting lark!

Kewcumber · 12/05/2008 16:07

that may be right (1 pint up to one) in terms of calcium food standards agency says 3/5ths of a pint. If I waited for DS to ask he'd never drink milk and isn't keen on cheese and there's a limit to how much yoghurt one small boy can eat!

Ds is 21 mths and has a beaker of milk in the morning with his breakfast and downstairs before bed. I'm not sure how much they 'should' have at this age but know they need some, unless they are getting calcium from other sources. I don't think ds would be bothered if he didn't have it (the other morning he had juice) but I like him to have some.

LOL - haven't phased either out yet - and DS is 7 !

Sorry took me ages to get time to come back on! Thanks... guess i'll just let it take its own course, then!
