Properly cheesy cheese scones

Does anyone have a really good cheese scone recipe? Cheese in (not just on) the scones. Maybe a bit wholemeal/spelt/not all white flour? Thanks! I like the cheese and chive scones from Gails, which are almost there.

I also use NT cheese scone recipe and added extra grated cheese to scone mix and on top (a mix of cheddar and parmesan) as like them very cheesy😀

Get really strong cheese basically

Add a little mustard powder to the mix. Use strong cheese. Don't use low fat cheese.

This is my go to basic recipe. You can add in the wild garlic (it is the season) or not, or sub chives.

Add more cheese if you want it cheesier. I don’t necessarily weigh out the cheese. Unlike the flour or butter, the cheese doesn’t have to be exact. You could experiment with subbing some spelt or whole meal flour, but really I think scones probably aren’t the recipe. Save it for a soda bread or something.

Adding mustard powder plus some garlic powder will boost the flavour and use the strongest vintage cheddar you can find - M&S Cornish Cruncher or equivalent.
Lidl do a good equivalent, but can't remember what it's called!

Thanks all. Lovely. I hadn't thought of garlic. Those wild garlic ones look delicious!

I use about 20% spelt flour which gives a nutty taste, good tasty cheddar, often Orkney Cheddar and some nigella (black cumin) seeds. We had some lovely scone like pastries in Turkey with black cumin seeds in and have added them since. Yum...
