Costco -what do you buy there?

Jeezitneverends · 09/03/2025 09:01

I’m looking at renewing Costco membership after lapsing for a few years.
My “local” one is 60 miles away, and I’m primarily looking to fill eth freezer a couple of times a year (meat eating family)

Other than that, what’s good va
ue these days? I know their own loo roll used to be good, is that still the case? What about other stuff?

Storage space isn’t an issue!

The usuals on my list are:
Large jars of coffee
Coffee pods multi packs
Bottles of sauce - Franks, Johnnys ranch, etc
Jalapeños
Peanut butter
Pecans
Off brand Nutella
Huge pack baking potatoes
Box of plum tomatoes
Chicken breasts
Washing powder
Breaded chicken
Loads more...

I went yesterday. Petrol is very cheap if yours has a filling station. Otherwise my rule of thumb is that things in bulk large packs tend to be cheaper than multipacks of regular things. Example - huge tub of mango chutney = cheap per kg. Huge multipack of regular cans of coke = same as supermarkets. In many ways you are paying for the convenience of buying in bulk and not having to do things with your weekly shop. I do buy the loo roll, £16 for 40 rolls. If I am not in a rush I go round price comparing things on my phone.

ExtraDecluttering · 09/03/2025 09:08

My regulars are
loo roll
peanut butter
maple syrup
pistachio paste
marmite
huge tub of pretzels
gigantic pizza
cheeses and salamis
cereals

We are rejoining this week as DD has spotted they are doing bottles of the dominos garlic dip?? We apparently need it in our life!
I like the sweet potato crackers so another good reason to go. We don't have storage space so don't get the toilet roll etc but I like a browse.

It’s an American firm, you might want to give it a swerve right now and use British firms instead.

Thanks for the idea of the large size packages for price comparison…ours does have a petrol station so the plan would be to drive down there on fumes 🤣and fill up for the return journey, sadly it’s too far away to be of regular benefit…
Id have time to do the price comparisons as saddo that I am, it’s next door to ikea so it’s dream day out stuff 🤣

I have one close by and use it a lot for fresh chicken, pork and beef. Some of their meat is sourced from local farmers. I have bought fruit, furniture, clothes and booze there as well as bog and kitchen roll.

With the current Trump induced US situation, we need to work out who we hurt with blanket anti-US boycotts and think of the law of unintended consequences. There are no easy answers and I'm anti-Trump.

SquigglePigs · 09/03/2025 09:23

We tend to go for bulk things we get through a lot of or that keeps qell:

Tinned tomatoes
Passata
Baked beans
Large fabric softener
Refill bottles for hand-wash
Weetabix
Cheerios
Shredding
Jam
Crisps
Halloumi

Then also fill up with petrol while we're there.

We also picked up gluten free pasta in bulk for a celiac friend, which was great.

JeanGabin · 09/03/2025 10:20

I always pick up baking stuff - chocolate chips and vanilla pods. Plus peanut butter, pepper, Worcestershire sauce. I try to stop there! I don't have much freezer space otherwise I'd stock up on the meat which is good quality. Love the chicken tenders from the freezer section though.

Lolapusht · 09/03/2025 10:31

Loo roll (it’s the best one we’ve found and there’s a mutiny if we run out!)
Butter
Pancetta
Cathedral City
Coffee beans
Cheerios
Passatta
Pasta
Kievs (only ones I eat as they’re not reconstituted chicken)
Chips
Chicken tenders/popcorn prawn type things
Sausages! The Italian ones are amazing & I use then as meatballs
Then we usually succumb to whatever they have out as samples!

TartanMammy · 09/03/2025 10:45

I'm going today, here's my list and we'll probably pick up some random bits too.

bottled water
Laundry detergent and softener
Toilet roll
Pakora
Nandos sauce
Chicken
Steak
Mini Weetabix
Protein drinks
Mini wrapped pancakes
Salad

AnotherVice · 09/03/2025 10:55

Pancake mix and a huge roll of baking paper! So much cheaper.

Thisismyalterego · 09/03/2025 11:07

We have a 'rolling' list of regular items. Some we buy every time and others less often, in order to spread the cost and storage space requirements. Meat is great quality, but can work out expensive if buying a lot, so we tend to buy that on a rolling basis.
Pork steaks
Lamb steaks
Chicken breasts
Steak
Butchers sausages
Ham
Coffee beans
Tea bags
Fabric conditioner
Washing powder ( used to buy their own but it's had a change and doesn't dissolve properly now, so I buy branded)
Dishwasher supplies
Bakery goods
Batteries
Toilet paper
Kitchen towel
Seasonal chocolate (Easter, Christmas etc)
Also worth having a look around the homewares and specials as I've picked up bits there in the past that have proved to be good buys as well.

Jeezitneverends · 09/03/2025 11:25

@JeanGabin @AnotherVice thanks for the info about baking supplies, I bake loads so I’ll definitely have a look at it
